FAIRHOPE PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION
Regular and Public Meeting,
Friday,_ April 2, _1965

Present: Chairman Woolley, Members Frederick, Bagnell,
Gates, Bung, S t apes, Niemeyer.
Absent: Members Pitman and Macon.
Visitors: Mr. Bateman, Yohn, Dyyson, Boone, Arnold, Mr.
and Mrs. Todd, Mrs. McKibbon, Mrs. Johnson,
Mr. and Mrs. Carter, Mr. and Mrs. Schneider,
Jr., Mr. Hyslop, Stroop, Allegri, Woodward,
Schneider, Clark.
Minutes read an�pproved as read.
Mr. Bateman requested that reference be made in the minutes
to his letter dated 2/9/65 containing his o inions of
rezoning on North Section and it was so ordered.
OLD BUSINESS:
Request of W. R. Todd to rezone the following described
property:
Claude Clark representing Thomas Hospital stated that the
Hospital Board, recognizing its large obligation to the
citizens and the trustees object to blanket rezoning without
specific use in mind. Joe Schneider voiced the same objec-
tion. A full discussion followed with all present joining.
The visitors were then dismissed.
Rezoning request of L. I. Boone to rezone as follows:

No opposition being present, Motion by Mr. Stipes, seconded
by Mr. Gates that the Fairhope Planning and Zoning Commission
recommend to the City Council the rezoning from R-9 to B-3
Lots 20 and 21, block 3, Central Park and from R-1 to M-1
the East 330 feet of North 332.4 ft. and South 92.4 ft. of
remainder of North 332.4 ft. and all the remainder of S.E.
1/4 of S.W. 1/4 Section 17, Division 4, except East 200 ft.
thereof. Motion carried unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS:
Letter was read from Mrs. Baker Brownell of the Wisteria
Garden Club concerning billboards and requesting the Commis-
sion to make a strong recommendation to the City Council for
anti billboard legislation. Motion by Mr. Gates,, seconded
by Mr. Stipes that the Fairhope Planning and Zoning Commis-
sion recommend to the City Council that a new signboard
ordinance be written and adopted which eventually would rid
Fairhope of signboards. Motion carried unanimously.
Claude Arnold presented for F.S.T.C. subdivision of block 47,
Magnolia Beach, requesting reliminary approval. Motion by
Mr. Bung, seconded by Mr. Frederick that preliminary approval
be given for F.S.T.C. subdivision of block 47 Magnolia Beach
subject to requirements of the subdivision ordinance and
recommendations of Planning Consultant. Motion carried unani-
mous l y.
�_.,Xotion by Mr. Niemeyer seconded by Mr. Gates that the Zoning
Commission recommend to the City Council the adoption of
Part IV, Southern Building Code, Minimum Housing Standards.
Motion carried unanimously.
Decision on W. R. Todd's rezoning applicationrupon being
contacted, Mr. Todd withdrew this application stating that he
would put this action in writing for the records.
Discussion on need for long range use plan was held. Mr.
Bateman was instructed to draw up a proposal for such a project.
There being no further business, meeting adjourned.
Next regular meeting Friday, May 7, 1965.
