HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-04-2022 Fairhope Pedestrian and Bicycle Committee Meeting MinutesFairhope Pedestrian and Bicycle Committee Meeting Minutes Date: 1/4/2022 Committee Member Attendees: Gary Gover; Chris Knight; Rosalie Stromme; Bill Hall; Katie Bolton; Jason Small; Chris Riley Committee Member Absentees: John Kavanaug h: Michelle Melton Guests in attendance : Jessica Walker; James Watkins of The Fairhope Times City Councilman representative: Jay Robinson was not in attendance. Meeting called to order at 4:00pm by Bill Hall. Motion carried to approve 11/2/2021 minutes. Pedestrian and Bicycle Committee Input for city project s: Working Waterfront Project --Jessica Walker reported that the funicular has been approved. GMC Design Team presentation to the council occurred in December 2021. There will be a survey distributed in January 2022 to garner community feedback on the proposed public pier improvements. Triangle Project a€" Final grant award documents have not been received yet. Once they are received, the design aspect of this project can then be sent out for bid to qualified design firms. Complete Streets Project a€" Gary Gover drafted a Complete Streets Resolution modelled after the 2018 winner, Cleveland Heights , Ohio. (see attached Resolution DRAFT) ***Action Item: Gary Gover will contact the Cleveland Heights, OH city government to inquire as to how their adopted resolution is being implemented to date (i.e. how many manhours does it take to manage, how far along is the city during the past 3 years of implementation, etc). Once staffing can be estimated, the next step will be to present the Resolution to Jay Robinson with 2 P&B committee members present. Equality Avenue Sidewalk Improvement : Painting contractor has been awarded this sidewalk project but they have been out sick; project will be completed when they are able to work again. BCT Safe Routes to School Task Force: Gary Gover reports that this task force has not had their f irst meeting yet per its facilitator, Charlene Lee. Full Comprehensive Land Use publ ic forums: These community engagement meetings are being held with regularity over the next 2 months : 1/25/22 at 6pm; 1/26/2022 at 10am; 1/26/2022 at 6pm; 2/15/2022 at 6pm; 2/16/2022 at 10am; 2/16/2022 at 7pm (virtual meeting online). Public comments may be communicated during in-person meetings or an online Survey with a deadline of 1/31/2022: https://www.surveylegend.com/survey/-MmOUxOdfhBMlS0z_FZA Community workshop is scheduled for 3/3/2022 at 6pm with a presentation of public feedback findings on 3/8/2022 at 5:30pm. ***Action Item: All P & B committee members who have not yet attended one of these Land Use Presentations will attend one of the remaining 6 public meetings a€" see times and dates above. Southlawn Place Sidewalks: Surveyors are scheduled for January 2022 to prepare mapping the estimated sidewalk repairs. The Southlawn Place subdivision sidewalk repair costs are estimated at $400,000 as a result of a Department of Justice complaint. De La Mare handicap parking space: Jessica Walker reported that this designated handicap parking space has been designed and engineered with an estimated completion date of April 2022.
