HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-08-2022 Fairhope Pedestrian and Bicycle Committee Meeting MinutesFairhope Pedestrian and Bicycle Committee Meeting Minutes Date : 3/8/2022 Committee Member Attendees: Gary Gover; Rosalie Stromme; Bill Hall; Katie Bolton; Chris Riley; Michelle Melton Committee Member Absentees: John Kavanagh; Chris Knight Guests in attendance: Jessica Walter; Hunter Simmons ; James Watkins of the Fairhope Times City Councilman representative : None were in attendance . Meeting called to order at 4 :02pm by Bill Hall. Motion carried to approve 2/1/2022 minutes . Administrative Items: The Pedestrian and Bicycle Committee meeting for the months of March, April and May shall be held in the Giddens Auditorium; the committee will meet for the months of June-December 2022 in the second floor boardroom of the Fairhope Public Library. Arts and Crafts Festival Bike Valet : Festival to be held on March 18-19-20, 2022 will be seeking volunteers to staff the Bike Valet tent. Many of the volunteer slots have been filled to date . Pedestrian and Bicycle Committee Input for city projects : a) Working Waterfront Project -Project has a work session scheduled for Monday 3/14 at 4:30pm. ***Action Item: Bill Hall to advise Chris Knight and John Kavanagh of this work session to see if one or both of them could attend as committee representatives. b) Triangle Project -Richard Johnson must first set up a meeting with Alabama Forestry Management representatives to determine the impact on flora and fauna on this acreage before any design and soil disturbance can begin. c) Complete Streets Project - ***Action Item: Bill Hall and Gary Gover will give the Complete Streets Resolution to the Land Use Team Consultants for possible inclusion into future city planning . Fels Avenue to Pier Avenue: ***Action Item : Rosalie Stromme to send a committee thank-you email to Richard Johnson for the installation of the Reflective Pavement Markers. Sidewalk Improvements: Citizen reactions to the Equality Avenue Sidewalk Repainting have been positive with suggestions for other Fairhope sidewalk repainting opportunities. ***Action Item: Chris Riley will begin the process of expanding sidewalk repainting to the Fairhope Furniture Consignment store on North Section and at the Fels Avenue/South Section area near Rambo's Auto Service. BCT Safe Routes to School Task Force : Charlene Lee has advised that the Safe Routes to School Task Force has a full membership at this time; when it becomes appropriate in the future, she will then recontact the Pedestrian & Bicycle Committee for a volunteer to sit on a future subcommittee when/if they are formed. Full Comprehensive Land Use public forums : The final presentation of public feedback findings will be held on 3/8/2022 at 5 :30pm at the Fairhope Civic Center. ***Action Item: All P & B committee members are encouraged to attend the final presentation session on 3/8/2022. New Business: Hunter Simmons provided copies of 4 GIS maps for Fairhope 's sidewalk inventory circa 2016. Three of the maps are segmented by elementary school districts (i.e Fairhope East, Fairhope West and J. Larry Newton Elem); the fourth map contains bike routes (exist i ng and proposed) along or near the Eastern Shore Trail. There are gaps in the sidewalk inventory as of 2022 and Hunter will set up a GIS application and make it available to committee members by the April meeting so that a uniform procedure can be followed to provide corrections/updates as of 2022. Next scheduled meeting: April 5, 2022 at 4pm in the Giddens Auditorium. Meeting adjourned at 4:58pm. Respectfully submitted, Rosalie Stromme, Secretary
