Meeting called to order by Chairman Woolley at 7:15 P.M. Members
present: Jim Gaston, Ed Overton, Rose Kamper, Dick Macon, Chairman
Woolley and State Planning Board Representative Sidney Doyle. Min-
utes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Old Business:
Mr. John Huffman's resignation was regretfully accepted by the Plan-
ning Board. Chairman Woolley advised Robert Nahrgang that he would
be no longer recognized as a member of the Planning Board. This
action was taken from the request of all members present at the
February 18 meeting and after Mayor Overton, the appointing power,
had submitted this request to Mr. Nahrgang,through the proper channel.
Chairman Woolley stated that his action was being prompted by the
advice of the city attorney. Mr. Nahrgang declined to submit his
resignation and asked for a public hearing. Chairman Woolley declined
this request from Mr: Nahrgang since he had rendered his opinion on the
advice of the city attorney that he was no longer a member of the Plan-
ning Board.
Mx. Doyle reported soliciting FHA for minimum dwelling size and require-
ment5,Jnf orunation concerning trailers in R-1 and R-2 areas was incomplete,
and Mr. Doyle states that he will advise the Board at a later date.
New Business:
~~' There was a general discussion of sub -standard housing. After various
expressions from Planning Board members, Chairman Woolley asked visitors
,from the tax payers, association to make limited comments. Mr. Belew
stated that he favored an ordinance to protect property owners. Mr.
Sheldon stated that he believed the present sanitation code would
suffice. Mr. Chapman believes that 1,000 sq. ft. is the minimum for
adequate living in our subtropical climate. Mr. Jack Arnold stated
that he felt any legislation to benefit the town would be desirable
and that a big job confronts us to fulfill the Planning Board activities.
An over-all major street plan was discussed and Mr. Doyle and Mr. Claude
Arnold were to convene during the month in order to establish more
technical assistance before the next meeting. Mr. Doyle mentioned the
advantage of accepting various advisory boards outside the Planning Board
to give information relative to signs sub -standard housing and other
critical activities. He felt that this was a good way to get the
people working with the Planning Board and in the interest of better
developmen,�i=t i1 — o = _. Mr. Nahrgang submitted a master street -
plan o Fairwood Subdivisio together with letter dated March 18 and
attache 's set Qf es. No action was taken on this plat
pending more informa£ion from the major street plan which is in process
at this time. The date for the next meeting is April 29, City Hall,
4:00 P.M. The meeting was adjourned by Chairman Woolley.
