Larry Newton School Members present: Amy Foley , Paul Hannon, Joe Kelley, Danielle Mashburn -Myrick, Carrie Mclemore, Hill Robinson, Miranda Schrubbe , Cornelius Woods Members absent: Robin Coleman (unexcused) Principals present: Julie Pierce -Fairhope West Elementary; Carol Broughton -Fairhope East Elementary; Patrice Wolfe and Lynn Smith-J. Larry Newton Elementary; Tonya Harrelson and Shawn O'Connor - Fairhope Middle School Guests : Laura Ruth Hunter, Amanda Lilley, Sarah Saltee -JLN Instructional Coaches Amy Foley called the meeting to order and minutes from the February meeting were approved . (The commission did not meet in March.) Patr ice Wolfe welcomed everyone to J. Larry Newton Elementary and introduced her team of instructional coaches whose positions are funded with 3-mill revenue. Laura Ruth Hunter, Amanda Lilley, Sarah Saltee each talked about their roles and the successes being achieved with the instructional coaching , professional development and intervention they are providing to teachers and students . Anticipating funding requests in the next two months for the '22 -'23 school year, Amy Foley shared what is available to each school in unspent budgeted funds being carried over from previous years: FHS : $51,489 FMS : $127,389 FEE : $40,383 FWE: $24,686 JLN : $73 ,329 Patr ice Wolfe shared recent information from John Wilson to assist each school in preparing funding requests for the new school year : • It is suggested that a 10%-15% cushion be included for personnel items in order to be in line with raises recently implemented by the state . • Consideration should be given to moving lower pay personnel to 3-mill funded spots where higher pay personnel are now, in order to maximize funds . John Wilson will provide instructions to principals for doing this . There was discussion regarding the K-1 proceeds and whether requests for those funds need to be reviewed by John Wilson before being approved by the commission . Amy will ask for clarification and report back . (Note from early 2020 meeting: Items that would incur extra liability, require special service contracts for maintenance, or where there is any question about additional costs/responsibility for the school system will need a closer look, but can usually be approved .)
