Amy Foley called the meeting to order and minutes from the February meeting were approved . (The
commission did not meet in March.)
Patr ice Wolfe welcomed everyone to J. Larry Newton Elementary and introduced her team of
instructional coaches whose positions are funded with 3-mill revenue. Laura Ruth Hunter, Amanda
Lilley, Sarah Saltee each talked about their roles and the successes being achieved with the instructional
coaching , professional development and intervention they are providing to teachers and students .
Anticipating funding requests in the next two months for the '22 -'23 school year, Amy Foley shared
what is available to each school in unspent budgeted funds being carried over from previous years:
FHS : $51,489
FMS : $127,389
FEE : $40,383
FWE: $24,686
JLN : $73 ,329
Patr ice Wolfe shared recent information from John Wilson to assist each school in preparing funding
requests for the new school year :
• It is suggested that a 10%-15% cushion be included for personnel items in order to be in line
with raises recently implemented by the state .
• Consideration should be given to moving lower pay personnel to 3-mill funded spots
where higher pay personnel are now, in order to maximize funds . John Wilson will provide
instructions to principals for doing this .
There was discussion regarding the K-1 proceeds and whether requests for those funds need to be
reviewed by John Wilson before being approved by the commission . Amy will ask for clarification and
report back . (Note from early 2020 meeting: Items that would incur extra liability, require special service
contracts for maintenance, or where there is any question about additional costs/responsibility for the
school system will need a closer look, but can usually be approved .)
The next meeting will be on Wednesday , May 4th at 4 :30 at Fairhope Middle School.
Meeting was adjourned at 5:15 .
