Amy Foley called the meeting to order and minutes from the April meeting were approved with a
correction of the date to be made .
Fund i ng requests for the 2022-2023 school year were pre sented . Jon Cardwell submitted proposed
spend i ng for Fairhope High , noting that most items were un changed from the previou s year but added a
d riv er education/health instructor that is needed due to growth in 10th grade enrollment and an
agr iscience instructor for a ne w department to teach an i m al, poultry and equine scien ces. For Fairhope
W est Elementary, Julie Pierce modified her request slightly from the previous year, highl ight i ng the need
for a behavioral coach to assist teachers with behavioral plan s. Carol Broughton pre sented the request
fo r Fairhope East Elementary, focusing on personnel items now and will request fund s for other items
later. Funding request from Patr ice Wolfe for J. Larry Newton School continues the personnel previously
funded and adds a new STEM teacher who will work with students and teachers . Fa irhope Middle
ant icipates presenting their request at the June meeting. All requests were approved , to be funded from
3-m ill monies . See detail be low; f ull requests are atta ched .

When the main business of the meeting was concluded, Hill Robinson requested that members of the
commission remain for a discussion of the need for annual progress measures to be provided by the
schools. All are in agreement that a defined accountability mechanism should be established. The scope
and definition will need to be determined in conversation with the principals . This will be put on the
June meeting agenda .
Next meeting will be on June 1st at 4:30 at Fairhope High . Meeting was adjourned at 5:30 .

School Summary: Fairhope East identified reading and math as areas in need of improvement as based
on the ACAP reading and math scores. We intentionally seek t o help those who score below grade level
by providing additiona l time and focused intervention each week. Additionally, we identified the
concept of STEAM as a cross-curricular experience based on hands-on engagement, discovery and the
