Saltee gave an overview of the intervention efforts at J. Larry Newton Elementary, describing the testing and various types of targeted intervention indicated based on the test results . Students who demonstrate proficiency and do not need intervention are provided enrichment activities. The level of intervention being provided would not be possible without the special tax funding. Meeting was called to order and the minutes from the September meeting were approved. Cont i nued discussion took place regarding the development of a "report card " to demonstrate the benefits of the 3-mill tax proceeds. • Suggestion was made that the commission host an open house to which the public wou ld be invited to learn about how the funds are being used and how students are benefiting, either in addition to, or instead of, a presentation at city council work session. • It was also suggested that the impact of the funding be highlighted year-round through such things as articles i n local parents' magazine and communications to parents from the schools (i.e ., in letters to parents regarding i ntervention services their students receive that are funded with the tax money). • Julie Pierce shared additional data from ACAP testing that was in a comparable format. New system called Data Insights is being implemented by the county, which will provide more ways to extract and compare scores/data going forward . Patrice Wolfe informed the commission members that she will submit an additional funding request at the next meeting for professional development. Funding would allow one of the instructional coaches to attend an in -person instructional coaching workshop presented by top professionals in this field , then bring the information back to share with her pee r s at JLN. Meeting was adjourned at 5:30 . Next meeting will be on November 2nd at 4 :30 at Fairhope M i ddle School. Respectfully submitted by M i randa Schrubbe
