Motion carried to approve 5/2/2023 minutes. Fels and Pier Congestion: Mayor Sullivan approved implementation of the Sharrows appliques and signs for this section of South Mobile Street. George Ladd reported that the Sharrows appliques and signs are on order and will be installed when they are received. Bike Repair Station and Additional Bike Racks: Richard Johnson and George Ladd both indicated that the bike repair station and the 6 additional bike racks are on order and are waiting to be received into Fairhope warehouse. Katie Bolton stated that the Fairhope Cycling Project has funding for 2 additional bike racks as long as a Fairhope citizen formally requests them and their intended location. Of the bike rack locations requested by the citizenry, committee members voted to have the following 8 sites prioritized, all of which were noted by George Ladd to be acceptable to be placed in city limits without any additional approvals: 1. Nix Center 2. Civic Center 3. Soccer Field (2 racks) 4. Butterfly Area 5. Knoll Park 6. Volanta Football Field (2 racks, 1 each at front and back entrances) *** Action item: Johnnie Prewitt, as a non-committee citizen, volunteered to write a memo to Katie Bolton officially requesting the Fairhope Cycling Project to order bike racks for locations #1-2. *** Action item: Rosalie Stromme to send Richard Johnson a list of locations #3-6 to have these six racks installed when they arrive. Twin Beech & Summer Lakes intersection: No update on the status of suggested solutions to this intersection because the Traffic Safety Control Committee was meeting at the exact same time as the Pedestrian & Bicycle Committee in June 2023. *** Action item: Bill Hall to follow up with the Traffic Safety Control Committee to determine if Pedestrian & Bicycle Committee recommendations outlined in 5/1/2023 memo were approved or denied at their 6/6/2023 meeting. Triangle Property: No updated information as of date of this meeting. Children’s Bike Safety Education: Bill Hall researched the possibility of having a certified bicycle safety instructor in to discuss holding four separate Bike Safety Clinics at each of the elementary and middle school campuses outside of school hours at the beginning of the Fall 2023 school year. There is only 1 certified instructor nearby and they are located in Pensacola. It takes about 90 days for a new instructor to be certified after a 3-day training class therefore this is not an action item that can be completed by Fall 2023 but rather target a start date of Fall 2024 if a person volunteers to complete the process to become a certified instructor. New Business: Bike Valet Coordinator: Bill Hall has let this committee know that a new Bike Valet Coordinator will need to be selected/assigned before the next Fairhope Arts & Crafts Festival in March 2024. Bill Hall as volunteered to be the coordinator for the past 5 years and has requested a replacement be named. Gambinos’s to American Legion Crosswalk: Chris Riley advised committee that there is heavy pedestrian traffic crossing South Mobile Street between Gambino’s and the American Legion however there is no crosswalk to safely guide pedestrians across the street along this curve of the roadway. Committee recommends that a Traffic Study be administered by the Police Department to determine if and where a crosswalk should be painted. *** Action item: Chris Riley will formerly request via memo to the Traffic Safety Control Committee that a Traffic Study be conducted by the Police Department regarding this situation between Gambino’s and American Legion. Next scheduled meeting: WEDNESDAY July 5, 2023 at 4pm in the Library’s Second Floor Boardroom. (please note the weekday change due to 7/4/2023 holiday) Meeting adjourned at 5:01pm. Respectfully submitted, Rosalie Stromme, Secretary
