The Fairhope Recreation Board met on Wednesday , May 17th, 2023 , at 5:15 p.m. in the
Rec Center at 803 North Greeno Road.
Present: Lisa Atchley , Pat White, Charlie Langham , Scott Berry, Cathy Hudson , Debra
Flowers, Jack Burrell, Dan Hoover, and Josh Warren. Absent: Haden Giddings and Corey
Martin.
The meeting was called to order by Lisa Atchley at 5:15 p.m. The minutes of the April 19,
2023 , meeting minutes were considered and approved on a motion by Charlie Langham,
seconded by Jack Burrell , none opposed.
Recreation Updates: Pat White informed the Rec Board that both youth baseball
and softball regular seasons are over and all star practices have officially begun. Youth
baseball will be hosting a warm-up 6U tournament at Volanta on June 2 n d and an 8U
District tournament on June 9th . FHS Graduation will be held atW C Majors on May 18 th .
FHS Football hosted their spring game last week. Pat also informed the Board that the
track project at Founders is moving along nicely, and the Council awarded the additional
funds to fix the failing drainage issue that arose during this construction process . Pat met
with an engineering team 2 weeks ago regarding the indoor pool structure and is hopeful
to have that report soon.
Recreation New Business:
There was general discussion regarding the current Rec Board By-Laws and the
possibility of amending the wording and adding additional officers.
There was general discussion regarding indoor pool usage and US Masters Swimming.
Fee structures and lane usage were discussed.
There was general discussion regarding the possibility of Sh aka Beach Volleyball LLC
usingthe2 beach volleyball nets and hostingtournamentsin the future . Pat informed the
Board thatthe area Sh aka is requesting to utilize is not in his department but we will bring
it to the attention of someone within the City who can assist them better.
Cathy Hudson informed the Board that FAST Swimming has started with great numbers
w ith Meets starting the 2 nd week in June.
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6 :33 p.m .
