The Airport Board of the City of Fairhope met May 5, 1986
at 1:00 p.m. at the City Hall
Present: Chairman Mason McCowin, members Trish Nelson
Russ Kilgore, Buzz Coiling and M.L. Aust, Engineer on
Project
M.L. explained to the Board that the reason for calling
the meeting was to discuss the thickness of the base
coat on the runway. That it lacks 2" of being what
it should be. That we could really make them tear it
out and repave it. That in part it is 3" lower than
it needs to be to meet old runway. Buzz asked if by
being lower will it jeopardize safety of the airplanes.
M.L. explained everything okey as is, they are offering
to raise runway where needed and pave with asphalt
which is relly to our advantage. What he is asking is
will we enter into an agreement with Newell saying we
accept as is with guarantee that if anything goes wrong
they will fix. Buzz Coiling moved to authorize Mason to enter
into an agreement saying we will accept correction of the
problem by adding the ashpalt where needed provided it is
at no extra cost to the Board, that W.S. Newell warrants
the required thickness is in place. Trish Nelson seconded
and motion carried unanimously.
Trish Nelson moved, seconded by Buzz Coiling to send a letter
to each aircraft owner asking if they would allow us to move
their plane for the 3 days the Conquistadors will be in town.
Motion carried unanimously.
there being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
