HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-28-2021 Tree Committee Meeting MinutesTree Committee Meeting January 28, 2021 9:00 a.m. Delchamps Room Paul Fontenot called the meeting to order. Members present: Patrick Waldrop, Joanne Hogan, Paul Fontenot, Craig Tappan, Skip Jones and Richard Johnson (by phone), Paige Crawford and Paul Merchant. Absent: Corey Martin and Stacy Howell. Gayle Fogarty took minutes. Paul Fontenot called the meeting to order. The minutes from the meeting held on January 9, 2020 and December 17, 2020 were reviewed and approved, P' motion by Patrick Waldrop and 2nd by Skip Jones and unanimously carried. New Business: Richard Johnson provided handouts of a written response he submitted to resident, Louis Braswell. Mr. Braswell requested the removal of a Live Oak tree from 250 North Bayview Street. Richard also provided the original communication with Mr. Braswell by e-mail requesting the tree to be removed. ( see attached) Mr. Braswell attended the meeting, provided a portion of the City of Fairhope tree ordinance, photos of the tree near his home, and addressed the committee members. He shared his request to remove the tree from his home at 250 North Bayview Street. There was general discussion among the committee members and Mr. Braswell. Skip Jones made a motion to have a certified arborist make a full assessment of the tree located at 250 North Bayview Street, prior to the tree committee voting on if the tree should be removed and reevaluate the tree after an official report from a certified arborist is completed, 2nd by Patrick Waldrop and unanimously carried. Skip stated that the tree committee would reevaluate the tree after an official report from a certified arborist is completed. Old Business: Paige Crawford stated that due to COVID-19 the City of Fairhope would provide a drive through seedling give away this year at the Fairhope Civic Center, and Paul Merchant would work with his staff to package the seedlings. Also, a proclamation for Arbor Day and the beautification awards will be given out during an upcoming council meeting. There was general discussion among the tree committee members and beautification awards were selected. (see attached award list) A motion was made to recommend to the City Council the appointment of Knox McMurphy and May-Moss Parker to the Tree Committee, 1 st motion by Craig Tappan and 2nd by Patrick Waldrop and unanimously carried. The committee selected April 15, July 15 and November 10 at 3 p.m. as future tree committee meeting dates. The meeting adjourned at I 0:56 a.m.
