The Airport Board of the City of Fairhope met November 1,
1982 at the City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope
Avenue, Fairhope, Alabama
Present: Chairman Don Coogan, members Jim Gaston and
Mac McCawley. Phil Bass and Dan Bravenec
The purpose of the meeting being to discuss a proposed
air show at the Fairhope Municipal Airport.
Mr. Coogan asked Mr. Bravenec to explain to the Board
what he wishes to do at the Airport. He told the Board
that he had just put on a show in Texas. His organization
was billed as the Golden West Air Show. He wishes to put
on the same show in Fairhope December 4th and 5th. Mr.
Coogan asked him about liability insurance. He said he
had already gotten with Jim Reid about the insurance,
telling his agent and the amount of coverage he has.
He mentioned that he had gotten clearance from the F.A.A.
for air space, he had contacted police and fire departments
That he makes his living in this business and hopes to
draw at least 20,000 people in this two day period. People
from Mobile and Pensacola, that there are a great number
of people that follow these shows. That he already has
his publicity lined up with T.V. commercials, billboards
and leaflets. That in Texas he had sponsored with United
Fund and he would be willing to go with a club in this area.
That he had donated all his money as this was his first
time and he was just trying to get the experience and make
sure the show would work. That all the operators in the show
were professionals, that it would be a two hour show
from 2-4 and he would handle concessions. The program consist-
ed of sky-diving,aerobatics, warbirds and comedy. The parking
question was discussed.
In conclusion Mr. Coogan asked Mr. Bravenec to include
a binder with his liability insurance that would show
the City included. He said he would. Mr. Coogan asked
him what he would be willing to give to the City for
the use of the Airport and he reported 504� a head. He
and Mac McCawley then discussed bringing in the Girls
& Boys Ranch to help sell tickets and he said he would
be willing to give them 1.00 apiece for every ticket
sold.
J.E. Gaston moved to recommend to the Council approval
of show subject to city attorney being satisfied with
liability coverage. C.O. McCawley seconded and motion
carried.
There being no further business, meeting was duly adjourned.
