The Airport Board of the City of Fairhope met on
September 2, 1982 to discuss with Phil Bass the
FBO at the airport his recent filing of Chapter
11 and how it would affect the City.
Those present: Don Coogan, Chairman;
members Buzz Colling, Jim Gaston and
Gilbert Wesley
Mr. Bass introduced Meg Crosby who is in charge of
disbursing the money for the Bass companies. Mr.
Bass remarked that this did not affect the City in
any way, it was a reorganization. He related the
events over the last year, the closing of the big
companies, and cancellations that caused the invol-
untary bankruptcy. He reported that he is now begin-
ning to get calls, and that he hopes to have every-
thing back in full swing within a year. Ms. Crosby
related that the airport is being maintained for the
general public. Mr. Bass also related that he had
120 days to satisfy his creditors. Gilbert asked
what was ahead down the road? Phil said he plans to
stay with rennovation, refurbishing. J.P. Nix said
he was trying to help get business interested in the
airport. Phil reiterated that the aviation business
is bad all over because of the economy, that the oil
company's getting hurt also hurt aviation.
At this time it was determined that there was no action
needed and Mr. Bass was capable of handling his own
problems with the business.
Mr. Coogan related his trip to Jackson and subsequent
letter that FAA advised was needed in regard to solici-
tation of Proposals for an anticipated FAA Project
at the Fairhope Municipal Airport(letter in file)
Meeting was duly adjourned.
