HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023 JulyAugustThe City of Fairhope is moving forward with plans to developthe iconic clock corner. The goal of the project is to soften the property and to incorporate a lot of the landscaping that you already see throughout town. The plan, developed by CPLA, will create a downtown plaza to enhance the downtown area. The project will include a gathering space with raised seating, planters and shade trees throughout. The radial nature of the site design is reflective of the circular forms of the intersections throughout downtown Fairhope and pays homage to the Fairhope clock.
“I am so happy that the City of Fairhope and Fairhope Single Tax Corporation purchased this parcel in 2019. This gave the City of Fairhope an opportunity to create a gathering place in downtown Fairhope that will only enhance the already beautiful landscape,” said Mayor Sherry Sullivan.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.

Tuesday, July 4
The City of Fairhope will host its annual Fourth of July Concert & Fireworks display again this year on Tuesday, July 4th in Henry George Park and the Fairhope Municipal Pier.
The Baldwin Pops Band Independence Day Concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Henry George Park. A variety of patriotic music will be played before and during the fireworks display. The Fairhope fireworks display will begin at approximately 9 p.m.
The north end of Fairhope Municipal Park will be open throughout the day and will remain open until no parking is available. The south end of the beach front park and Knoll Park will be available to spectators. Handicap parking will be available near the fountain but will be limited. Those who wish to park in the handicap area should plan to arrive early and stay until the fireworks are over. As a reminder, this is an alcohol-free event, and no personal fireworks are permitted.
Hurricane season is a reminder to have an emergency plan and supplies for your household. With an increase in the severity of pop-up storms, though, it is important to be ready all the time. Non-weather-related issues should also be included in plans. The pandemic was an example of an unexpected trial that may affect our resources. If our area lost power, water, gas, internet, or communication services for an extended period, is your household ready? Commit to making an emergency plan with your family, friends, and neighbors today.
• Are you signed up to receive emergency notifications?
• Does your family have an emergency communication plan as well as an evacuation plan?
• Do you have an emergency kit to last a minimum of three days? You may want to include the following:
If these items are not ready, take action and prepare!

□ First aid kit
□ Cash
□ Prescription medicines for your family and pets

What began as the Fairhope Police Department’s “Back to School with Blue” program, merged into a community-wide effort to help families in need prepare for a new school year. Today, our partnerships include many local churches, non-profit organizations, and businesses. Each student can receive over $300 in supplies or services. Especially for a family with multiple children, this is a significant help.

The City is also looking forward to completing the Clock Corner and the Arts Alley projects in the next few months. The Arts Alley is a collaboration with the Eastern Shore MPO and the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation. The main goal of this project is to make the alley an attractive option for downtown visitors by improving the aesthetics, adding a transit hub/restroom facility and updating directional signage. Thank you for your patience as we work to make improvements to downtown Fairhope.
