The Airport Board of the City of Fairhope met March 4, 1982
at the City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope Avenue,
Fairhope, Alabama at 2:30 p.m.
Those present: Chairman Don Coogan; members Jim
Gaston, Buzz Colling, Gilbert Wesley, and Mac McCawley
The Board welcomed Mr. Wesley, newly appointed, and told
him they were sure he would be a great help in matters
concerning the Board.
Mr. Coogan at this time discussed with the Board that he had
been unable to find a lease showing who was farming the
land around the Airport that the City owned. He also
mentioned that he had been unable to determine the Airport
boundary. The Board suggested that possibly Mason McGowin
was the lessee, that for sure he would know who it was.
The tie -down fees that the FBO collects were discussed and
it was pointed out that the Minimum Standards allowed the
fees to be collected by the FBO. The pros and cons of
charging tie -down fees when the fuel was being bought at
the airport was discussed.
The possibility of erecting portable T-hangars was discussed.
Jim Gaston remarked that this was something that he had
wanted for a long time. It was pointed out that the lease
calls for 10,000 sq. ft. for this purpose. Gilbert asked the
Board how they would feel about letting an individual, at
his expense erect such a structure, just providing the space.
That he had discussed this with Mason McGowin and that he had
indicated that if he was allowed to erect same and at a future
date it was decided that this space would be needed for expan-
sion that he could donate pad to the City. Further discussion
led to the Board suggesting that Jim Gaston and Gilbert Wesley
work as a committee to investigate the possibility of using
these portable T. hangars at our airport. M.L. suggested
that the West side of the ramp could be used for 5 hangars
with 30 left over(4 ft. between).
Don Coogan brought to the Board's attention that there were
some films put out by the F.A.A. available to communities
to show for public interest on the airports, if the Board
wished to get these films.
J.E. Gaston moved seconded by C.O. McCawley to make it a Board
policy not to accept any oral proposals regarding Airport
facilities, written proposals only. Motion carried by unanimous
vote.

Mr. Coogan mentioned at this time that he had a letter
from Mr. Fruzetti regarding the -03 project final draw.
That some $2452.98 had been deleted from payment on the
final draw and he and M.L. had some work to do regarding
this. The rest of the Board felt they no longer needed
to be present for this, meeting was duly adjourned.
