October 18, 2018

Members present: Patrick Waldrop, Jay Robinson, Arthur Bosarge, Craig Tappan, Skip Jones, Paul
Fontenot. Absent: Jo Hogan, Richard Johnson and Harriett Gutknecht. Gayle Fogarty took minutes.
Paul Fontenot called the meeting to order at 3:08 p.m. The minutes from the meeting held on July 26,
2018 were reviewed and approved, 1 st motion by Skip Jones and 2 nd by Patrick Waldrop and unanimously carried.
New Business: Paul Fontenot inquired about getting the landscape plans for the new business on Greeno
Road. He added that the City of Fairhope has a required landscape buffer -landscape ordinance. He
shared his concerns with Jay Robinson and the committee. Arthur Bosarge stated that he would remind
Richard Johnson that the Tree Committee would like to make sure the landscape ordinance is being
enforced.
Patrick Waldrop asked when Arbor Day 2019 would be held, after general discussion among the
committee members, a motion was made that Arbor Day will be held on February 16, 2019, }51 motion
by Patrick Waldrop and 2 nd by Skip Jones and unanimously carried.
There was general discussion among the committee members about the process of the Arbor Day
seedling distribution, the committee members agreed that the current process in place works well.
Patrick Waldrop stated that he will contact Coastal Community College to make sure that February 16
will work for the college. Patrick added that he will contact Paige Crawford about the poster contest,
beautification awards and seedling set-up.
There was general discussion among the members regarding Tree Committee meeting dates for 2019.
The dates were reviewed and approved, 1st motion by Patrick Waldrop, and 2 nd by Skip Hines and
unanimously carried. The dates for 2019 are: January 10, April 18, July 18 and October 17, 2019.
Paul Fontenot inquired about the trees in downtown, he commented that they didn't look good, Arthur
Bosarge commented that some trees need to be replaced. Paul F. also asked if any improvements to the
Pier Street and Orange Street areas are in the plans. Arthur responded there are no plans for
improvements right now.
Skip Jones suggested that at the next tree committee meeting the member come up with some
suggested trees for replacement in the downtown area.
Patrick Waldrop stated that a bum was planned two weeks ago, but was cancelled, due to weather
conditions. He added that a planned bum will take place in January or February of 2019.
The meeting adjourned at 3 :45 p.m.
