HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-26-2017 Tree Committee Meeting MinutesTree Committee Meeting October 26, 2017 3p.m. Delchamps Room Members present: Jeff Davies, Craig Tappan, Jo Hogan, Paul Fontenot, Patrick Waldrop, Paul Merchant, and Gayle Fogarty took minutes. Absent: Harriett Gutknecht, Skip Jones and Jay Robinson. Paul Fontenot called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. The minutes from the meeting held on Thursday, July 20, 2017 were reviewed and approved, 1st motion by Patrick Waldrop and 2nd by Jeff Davies and unanimously carried. Old Business: Paul Merchant provided an update on the Live Oak Tree located near 200 South Section Street and the aeration process. There was general discussion about the tree among the committee members. Jo Hogan stated that the Fairhope Garden Club is interested in purchasing a tree and having it planted in an area of need in town. She asked what kind of tree the City needed, Paul Merchant responded that he would meet with Fred Corte and see wat is available and let her know. Patrick Waldrop made comments regarding the roundabout at Fairhope Avenue and Hwy 13, as to what was originally planted, there was general discussion among the committee members. Patrick added that he doesn't believe anyone is going to get any Urban Forestry Grant funds, as the funds are exhausted. The tree trail on the campus of Alabama Coastal Community College needs to be updated and reprinted, Patrick suggested that the Tree Committee come up with a cost for this project to be completed, once that is done, he offered to inquire with the Fairhope Single Tax Colony to see if this is something they would consider funding. He also stated that he met with Mayor Wilson and they walked Knoll Park together, he talked to her about the process of burning Knoll Park and that the smoke needs go toward the bay for the burn to be successful. He would like to burn it after November 4, 2017 or sometime in November 2017. Patrick added that he spoke to Mayor Wilson about marking four trees that need to be removed. Paul Merchant stated that Mayor Wilson has not communicated that any trees need to be removed from Knoll Park to public works at this time. Arbor Day: There was general discussion among the committee members regarding the date of the Arbor Day celebration in Fairhope, it was determined that February 17, 2018, more Master Gardener volunteers were available to help, so the committee agreed to move the date from February 24 to February 17, 2018. New Business: There was general discussion among the committee members regarding scheduled tree trimming in bucket trucks. There being no other business, the committee adjourned at 4:23 p.m.
