HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-20-2017 Tree Committee Meeting MinutesTree Committee Meeting July 20, 2017 3p.m. Delchamps Room Members present: Jeff Davies, Harriett Gutknecht, David Dyson (left at 3:40 p.m.), Jo Hogan, Skip Jones, Patrick Waldrop, Gayle Fogarty took minutes. Absent: Craig Tappan, Paul Fontenot and Jay Robinson, Guest: Gene Labroto Patrick Waldrop called the meeting to order at 3:07 p.m. The minutes from the meeting held on Thursday, April 13, 2017 were reviewed and approved, 1st motion by Patrick Waldrop and 2nd by Harriett Gutknecht and unanimously carried. Old Business: Patrick Waldrop wanted to get an update from the City on the Live Oak Tree located near 200 South Section Street. Harriett Gutknecht added that it looks bad, David Dyson stated that he doesn't think the tree will make it. Jeff Davies suggested that the Arbor Day award guidelines should have categories for the awards, he said, he will put some ideas together and bring it to the next meeting. Harriett informed the committee that the City doesn't have any printed trail brochures. Arbor Day: Arbor Day will be February 24, 2018. Patrick Waldrop stated that the Urban Forestry Grant funds are exhausted, he also discussed the possibility of a tree app for your phone that could be used to identify trees throughout town. He added that between the Beach Trail and Alabama Coastal Community College, 100 signs are needed. Harriett stated that the City needs to pay to have more beach trail brochures printed. Skip Jones added that 12 signs are using a tree app. Jo Hogan stated that the Fairhope Garden Club will celebrate its 50thanniversary soon and would like to donate $500 to the City of Fairhope to purchase a large tree to commemorate this occasion. New Business: Jeff Davies stated that the eastside of Knoll Park is looking overgrown. Patrick said, he would like to walk through Knoll Park with Mayor Wilson. He also wants to bum Knoll Park at the end of August or the beginning of September, close to seed drop. There being no other business, the committee adjourned at 3:51 p.m.
