HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-11-2016 Tree Committee Meeting MinutesTree Committee Meeting February 11, 2016 Delchamps Room Members present: Jeff Davies, Harriet Gutknecht, Patrick Waldrop, David Dyson (arrived at 3:30 p.m.), Skip Jones and Jennifer Fidler; ex-officio. Absent: Rich Mueller; City Council member, Allison Chang, Jo Hogan, and Paul Fontenot. Gayle Fogarty took minutes. Patrick Waldrop called the meeting to order. The minutes from the meeting held on Thursday, November 5, 2015 were reviewed and approved 1st motion by Patrick Waldrop and 2nd by Harriett Gutknecht and unanimously carried. Treasured Trees -There was general discussion among the members of the treasured tree program. Patrick Waldrop provided an update of what the treasured tree program is and what qualifies for a tree to be named a treasured tree. Harriett informed the group that the deadline for this year is February 19, 2016, the treasurer trees will be announced at Arbor Day. Arbor Day -There was general discussion among the members regarding Arbor Day set for Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 10 a.m. Harriett Gutknecht provided an informational letter to each tree committee member on the process of preparing and distributing the seedlings for Arbor Day. (see attached) There being no other business, the committee adjourned at 3:50 p.m. February 27, 2016 Faulkner State Science Center Thank you for volunteering for Arbor Day with the City of Fairhope. For the workers on Friday, February 26th , please come at 2:00 pm to the Public Works Facility on 451 Pecan Avenue to put the trees in bags and place labels on each bag. Please go to the front entrance and go to the rear in the warehouse area. Please bring your gloves and I will have all of the necessary supplies. For workers on Saturday, February 27th , please be there at 9:00 am (at Faulkner on the Bancroft Street side). The program starts at 1 0:00 am. It should last about 30 minutes and then we will assist with the distribution of tree seedlings. The following will be given out: Longleaf pine, Shumard oak, Baldcypress, Western mayhaw, Blackgum, Sassafras, Southern magnolia and Fringetree. There will be a tent with heaters if needed. So dress according to the weather, wear comfortable shoes and bring your gloves. If you have any questions, please email hgutkne@aol.com or call 990-7968.
