Fairhope Pedestrian & Bicycle Committee
1. Call to order.
2. Review/Approve March Meeting minutes.
3. Administrative Items-(All)-Bike Valet Update (Bill)
4. Meeting with Richard Johnson (Rosalie)
a. Will the Committee’s request to have Sharrow Markings painted on South Mobile from Fels Ave
to Pier St and Share the Road and Bicycles Yield to Pedestrians signage have to be
reviewed/approved by the Traffic Safety Committee? Do we have a timeframe when this can
be accomplished?
b. For the signage referenced above, will the City allow Pro Cycle and Tri to purchase the signs
through their non-profit organization? See attached e-mail from Morgan to Fairhope Bike
Project
c. Is Public Works going to place sidewalk striping on Fels Ave and So. Section St around the
Rambo Service Station? If so, is there a timeframe for completion of the striping?
d. What is the status of the Bike Repair Station for the EST near Pier St? Do we have a timeframe
for installation of the Bike Repair Station?
e. What is the status of the order for bike racks? How many were ordered?
f. Mr. Nigel Temple lives in Colony Place. He had submitted an e-mail with concerns for
pedestrian safety involving high speed vehicles and lack of crosswalk lighting to alert drivers
of pedestrians at crosswalks. The committee reviewed his concerns and recommends:
1. Installation of pedestrian activated flashing crosswalk signs for the crosswalks on Twin
Beach-west of Pirate Drive, Twin Beach/Boothe Rd/Founders Dr intersection, and on Twin
Beach, east of Summer Lake St,
2. Traffic calming solutions should be implemented to slow traffic on Twin Beach as it has
become a high speed corridor, and
3. Designation of the section of Twin Beach Rd to Summer Lake Street as “School Zone” with
appropriate lower speed limits during school traffic timeframes.
g. Do these recommendations require the Traffic Safety Committee review/approval? If so, how
do we get the recommendations to the Traffic Safety Committee? If not, how do we move
ahead with these recommendations?
h. Does the 311 System provide you with Monthly Work Statistics or statistics on the number of
completed work orders and number of monthly delayed work orders? This information was
requested by a committee member. The committee feels this would be good information to
provide to the public to demonstrate the system’s efficiency and the Public Work Department’s
workload.
i. We have not had a City Employee Representative during our last two meetings. Having a City
Employee Representative at the meetings is crucial to the committee members receiving the
most up to date information concerning various projects. Additionally, the City Employee
Representative can answer our questions during the meetings and this will cut down on the
number of questions we will need to direct to you after the meetings. Can you designate an
employee or group of employees that could share the attendance duties?
5. Working Waterfront Project Status Update- (Chris R & Chris K)
6. Triangle Property Project Status Update-(Katie)
