The Young Street Community Park property has been undergoing a transformation for the past year, the result of a team effort from volunteers and the City.
In addition to the basketball court which sits closest to the road, the property has new playground equipment, fencing and an updated driveway. Additionally, the expanded community garden has been installed thanks, in part, to a generous grant from the Fairhope/Point Clear Community Foundation.
The garden’s layout allows for eight raised beds for growing vegetables as well as spaces for blueberries, pollinator flowers, fruit trees and much more. Students at the Rotary Youth Club meet weekly with long-time volunteers Catherine Kiser and Moe Nation, as well as volunteers from the Alabama Extension Agency and the community. These garden club classes give students a hands-on experience in growing, tending and harvesting fresh foods from the garden as they learn responsibility, ownership and environmental issues at the property.
Special thanks also to volunteers from 3 Circle Church, Fairhope Rotary
Youth Club Board, Directors and Staff who spent a Saturday this past spring sprucing up the grounds!

Alabama Coastal Cleanup
Downtown Trick or Treat
Downtown Trick or Treat is a fabulous family tradition and a safe way for kids of all ages to enjoy a little pre-Halloween
fun! Children are invited to wear their Halloween costume and trick or treat in downtown Fairhope on Saturday, October
29, from 10 a.m. to noon. Just look for the orange pumpkins in the windows of stores downtown to see who is
participating. Participants are also invited to drop by the Welcome Center with their cameras where a Halloween
photo stop will be set-up.
The community is invited as we remember those who served and those who were lost 21 years ago on September 11th. The Fairhope Police Department will be hosting its annual 9/11 ceremony outside the Police Department at 107 N. Section Street on Friday, September 9th, at 9 a.m.
Saturday, September 17, marks the 35th annual Alabama Coastal Cleanup, and for Fairhope residents, it is a good opportunity to not only clean up along the coast but to clean up city wide. Again this year the City of Fairhope is encouraging neighborhood groups and others to join together to pick up trash and help make a difference.
Volunteers who sign up early will receive a free t-shirt. The packets of supplies will be available for pickup at the Nix Center (1 Bayou Drive) on Friday, September 16th, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. All other volunteers can sign-in at the Fairhope Pier on Saturday, September 17th, beginning at 8 a.m. The cleanup takes place from 8 a.m. to noon. The Alabama Coastal Clean-Up is part of an international effort
to remove debris from coastal waters.
This year as part of the day’s activities, the City of Fairhope will cook hotdogs between 10 a.m. and noon at the
south end of the Fairhope beach front park for all volunteers. Be a part of this effort this year to help keep Alabama and
Fairhope beautiful!

With September comes the excitment of a new school
year and the return of football season.
As our local football and soccer teams take to the field, we are proud to be able to play host at W.C. Majors Field at Volanta Park. While you’re cheering on your favorite team, I hope you will notice the improvements that are continually being made to the field, stands and to all of our recreational parks. We take pride in offering a variety of green space for our residents and visitors to enjoy.
To keep the cheering going, we are finally wrapping up
the Church Street Infrastructure Project. The patience of
the residents and business owners is greatly appreciated,
and we are thankful for the promise of reliable and
resilient infrastructure thanks to the completion of this
project.
I encourage you to take full advantage of the fall weather and hit the streets of downtown Fairhope for First Friday Art Walk each month, visit a new park or join us for Downtown Trick or Treat coming up at the end of October. It’s a great time to take advantage of all Fairhope has to offer.
Sherry Sullivan, Mayor
