Easter Sunrise Service Fairhope Museum to unveil new exhibit in March
Farmer’s Market begins again
The Fairhope Arts and Crafts Festival Foundation is proud to announce that the 70th annual Fairhope Arts and Crafts Festival will take place
March 18, 19, and 20, 2022, in beautiful downtown Fairhope.
The festival was recently named one of the TOP 25 art shows in the nation by the prestigious Sunshine Artist Magazine in their annual “200 Best”
list of the top two hundred art shows.
“We are honored that our Festival has received this recognition,” said 2022 Festival Chairman Vicky Cook. “Our organization and its volunteers
work year-round to bring this cherished community event to life every year. This award is particularly meaningful this year as we prepare for our
platinum jubilee in 2022. We are proud to be a time-honored tradition for so many artists, locals, and guests that visit our utopia by the Bay for
70 years.” The Fairhope Arts & Crafts Festival Foundation (501c3) hosts the annual Festival and its surrounding events to promote community
appreciation of the arts and support art education. All proceeds are reinvested into the community through local scholarships, donations,
and grants available to students and organizations in Fairhope.

Farmer’s Market begins again
The Fairhope Museum of History is thrilled to announce the
opening of their newest exhibit, “Utopia on the Bay”, opening to the public Friday, March 18th. This exhibit will replace the
current, “Dogwoods: More Than External Beauty” exhibit located on the second floor of the museum.
“Utopia on the Bay” is an exploration of the influence of
Mobile Bay on the formation of the country’s oldest and largest single-tax colony and utopian experiment. In 1894, the
founders of Fairhope, Alabama, sought out a location to start their utopian dream that would provide economic opportunity
and inspiration for the reformers that would follow them. The eastern shore of Mobile Bay provided both.
Exhibit displays will illustrate how the bay’s access to the
rich veins of clay helped Fairhoper’s establish themselves in the pottery industry, bay breezes and high bluffs attracted
countless tourists, the magnificence of the bay ignited the imaginations of influential artists and writers, and the majestic
bay boats kept it all afloat.
This new exhibit will feature interactive displays that will explore the history of the bay before colonists, when Native
Americans utilized its shores. Lastly, the exhibit will examine the relationship between the people of Fairhope and the
wildlife of the bay over time.
The Easter bunny will visit Fairhope from 10 a.m. to Noon Saturday, April 9th, in front of the Fairhope Welcome Center. Parents are welcome to bring their cameras to take Easter bunny photos.
The four-person scramble, presented by title sponsor Terry
Thompson Chevrolet, will offer morning and afternoon start times, lunch provided by Imperial Dade, drinks, on-course
competitions, winning prizes and more.
All proceeds from the tournament are distributed by the Fairhope Educational Enrichment Foundation (FEEF) directly
back into Fairhope’s five public schools. These funds provide programs and equipment to our students and teachers that
are not made possible through traditional funding the schools receive. This includes science labs, STEAM labs, piano, choir,
guitar, theatre, art, engineering, robotics, teacher classroom grants and more.
The City of Fairhope will host an Outdoor Farmer’s Market from 3-6 p.m. Thursdays starting April 14th and ending July 14th. The market will be set up behind the Fairhope Public Library and will feature local farmers, bakers, fresh Baldwin County produce, fresh-cut flowers, local honey, plants, baked goods and more.
The City of Fairhope has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year that ended September 30, 2020. The award was given by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. Pictured with the award are Mayor Sherry Sullivan, City Treasurer Kim Creech and Senior Accountant Aislinn Stone.
The report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and
financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

Spring is in the air, and our City is full of activity.
We will welcome back artists and visitors alike for the
70th Annual Fairhope Arts and Crafts Festival that
will be held on the streets of downtown in March.
I encourage you to join us, shop the artists and our
City merchants and take the time to stop in the
Fairhope Museum of History to see the newest
exhibit, “Utopia on the Bay.” Live at 5, along with
the return of Theatre 98, will add in a healthy dose
of entertainment this season as well.
With all of the fun and growth, we will also begin to experience some necessary growing pains as the Church Street Infrastructure project continues to progress and our Arts Alley project kicks off. April may bring with it more roadwork and traffic interruptions, but the benefits to our City will be well worth the temporary growing pains. We are working everyday to make Fairhope better for generations to come!
Sherry Sullivan, Mayor
