_______________________________________________________
Meeting called to order at 4:05pm.
Motion carried to approve 10/4/2022 minutes.
Administrative Items: A special committee meeting was publically advertised for 11/16/2022 to
approve two candidates interested in volunteering: Mike Walker and Morgan Russell. City
Council approved their applications at their November meeting. John Kavanagh’s written
resignation from this committee was accepted.
Crosswalk Painting: Decorative striping for crosswalk near Rambo’s was declined and Mayor
Sullivan approved traditional white striping crosswalk along this area of Section Street.
**Action Item: Chris Riley will contact George Ladd of City of Fairhope to explore the
possibility of having decorative Mardi-Gras style crosswalks painted at each end of De La Mare.
Sidewalk Inventory Mapping: Committee members voted unanimously to target completion of
Fairhope’s Sidewalk Inventory by April 1, 2023 as Hunter Simmons needs to have this
information not only for the Safe Routes to School Program but also for the Bicycle Friendly &
Safe Community Application. Hard copy city map is maintained at Katie Bolton’s business so
completed updates may be written on this map either in her shop during normal business hours of
Pro Cycle and Tri or at Committee monthly meetings.
**Action Item: Committee members with mobile devices will complete sidewalk inventory
sections as assigned in the December meeting: for example, Mike Walker to complete Idlewild
area; Morgan Russell to complete area west of Greeno Rd to the water and south of Volanta to
Fairhope Avenue. Other incomplete sections should be completed by the balance of those
members with mobile devices as discussed in meeting. Rosalie Stromme will email via separate
correspondence with confidential username and password for this online application.
Triangle Property: City of Fairhope has accepted deed restrictions and current grant monies
only cover the northernmost Triangle property. Thompson Engineering has conducted ongoing
meetings with steering committee; Katie Bolton reiterated that any prior mapping projections of
this property should be ignored until final decisions are made.
Pier Street Bicycle Repair Station and Additional Bike Racks: These two items had been
scheduled to be budgeted for purchase during 2022-2023 fiscal year. Attempts were made to
Jessica Walker before she resigned and to Richard Johnson regarding their status but these
attempts at information status were unsuccessful.
**Action Item: Rosalie Stromme will contact Michelle Melton to determine budget/purchase
status of these two pending items.
Twin Beech & Summer Lakes intersection: This intersection has proven to be dangerous in
recent months due to incident reports/accidents. Solutions were discussed such as flashing lights
at eye level for drivers. Committee members agreed that a written complaint from a Fairhopian
citizen should be sent to this committee via fairhopepedbikeada@gmail.com; committee will
then take appropriate action with responsible city entities.
**Action Item: Katie Bolton to contact the citizen who made this observation to request a
written complaint.
Next scheduled meeting: January 3, 2023 at 4pm in the Library’s Second Floor Boardroom.
Meeting adjourned at 4:58pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Rosalie Stromme, Secretary
