The Fairhope Airport Authority met May 10, 2022 at 5:00PM in the City Hall
Council Chambers at 161 N Section Street.
Present: Don Lagarde, Chairman, Chip Groner, Pel Henry, Jack Burrell, Vince
Boothe and Will Bruce. Amy Pearson was absent. Also present was Josh Myrick,
Attorn ey. Cynthia A Boothe took the Minutes.
The Minutes of the April 12, 2022 meeting were considered and approved with a
motion by Pel Henry, second by Chip Groner and unanimously passed.
Fairhope Airport Operations: Chip Groner stated that the AWOS has been
repaired but the Authority needs to consider purchasing a new AWOS system as
the existing one was built in 1995. He reported that the REIL lights, one PAPI light
and about a dozen runway lights are out and will be repaired, but supply chain
issues are causing delays for repair parts. Chip stated that two gates are having
issues and Nick VanHouten is working on resolving them. Pel Henry stated that
the East Side gate is almost finished and will use a keypad for entry.
Continental Aerospace Report: Don Lagarde stated that Nick Van Houten
reported gas sales of about 35,000 gallons or up about 15%.
Engineer's Report: Don Lagarde reported that Hank Eubanks stated that Fairhope
was one of only two Airports in Alabama that was recommended for a grant to
build a terminal by the FAA and ALDOT. The grant would be funded by the FAA at
90%, ALDOT at 5% and the Airport Authority at 5%. Don stated that Hank was
very optimistic about the chances for Fairhope to be awarded the grant. He also
stated that the $295,000.00 that the Authority will receive every year for the next
five years could fund a new AWOS or go toward runway strength ening.
Treasurer's Report: Chip Groner reported that the Bryant Account is almost
ready to be transferred to Trustmark after automatic deductions from the Bryant
Account are also transferred to Trustmark. He then went over the Trustmark,
Grant and Operating accounts.
Presentation by Morgan Ashurst for developing West Side property: A
presentation was made by Morgan Ashurst about marketing the vacant West Side
property for sale. The presentation was followed by a question-and-answer
period by the Authority members.
Legal Report: No report.
Other Business/New Business: A motion was made by Pel Henry to hire Ashurst
& Niemeyer Real Estate as broker of record to market the property on the West
Side for sale. There was a second by Chip Groner and it unanimously passed.
Comments from the Public: No Report.
There being no further business, a motion was made to adjourn by Pel Henry,
second by Jack Burrell and unanimously passed. The mee ting was adjourned at
5:53PM.
