HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-10-2018 Regular Meeting MinutesSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at 6:00 p.m., Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber, 161 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on Thursday. 10 December 2018. Present were Council President Jack Burrell, Councilmembers: Jay Robinson, Jimmy Conyers, Robert Brown, and Kevin Boone, Mayor Karin Wilson, City Attorney Marcus E. McDowell, and City Clerk Lisa A. Hanks. There being a quorum present. Council President Burrell called the meeting to order. The invocation was given by Pastor William Parsons from Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Council President Burrell stated there was a need to add on an agenda item after Agenda Item Number 20: a resolution to authorize a one-time pay increase for City employees. Councilmember Robinson moved to add on the above-mentioned item (s) not on the printed agenda. Seconded by Councilmember Boone, motion passed unanimously by voice vote. Councilmember Conyers moved to approve minutes of the 26 November 2018, regular meeting; minutes of the26 November 2018, work session; and minutes of the26 November 2018, agenda meeting. Seconded by Councilmember Boone, motion passed unanimously by voice vote. Mayor Wilson addressed the City Council regarding the following items: 1) Lee Parks with Warren Averitt who is performing our audit. Since the Treasurer left several people have been doing the job which increases the risk of fraud and theft. The auditors recommend the Finance Department staff do Treasurer duties. Most Cities have the Finance Director over the Treasury Department; 2) Sales Tax Ordinance is not on agenda; 3) Finance Director Jill Cabaniss found debt prepayment does not need any funds added; 4) Quality of Life issues; 5) Fairhope Local (invest in the nest) and support local businesses; 6) Thanked everyone for a great Christmas Parade; and thanked the Public Works Department and Police Department for their hard work.
