COUNTY OF BALDWIN ){
The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at
6:00 p.m., Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber,
161 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on
Monday. 13 May 2019.
Present were Council President Jack Burrell, Councilmembers: Jimmy
Conyers, Robert Brown, and Keyin Boone, Mayor Karin Wilson, City Attomey
Marcus E. McDowell, and City Clerk Lisa A. Hanks. Councilmember Jay Robinson
was absent.
There being a quorum present. Council President Burrell called the meeting to
order. The inyocation was giyen by Pastor Rick Malugani of Fairhope Christian
Church and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Councilmember Conyers moyed to
approye minutes of the 22 April 2019, regular meeting; minutes of the 22 April 2019,
work session; and minutes of the 22 April 2019, agenda meeting. Seconded by
Councilmember Brown, motion passed unanimously by yoice vote.
Mayor Wilson presented the following resolution to Executive Director Sally
Deane and Board Members of Ecumenical Ministries:
WHEREAS, Ecumenical Ministries, Inc. in Baldwin County — hereinafter known as
EMI -- is a faith-based nonprofit organization founded in 1970; and
WHEREAS, EMI has helped hundreds of volunteers, organizations and multiple
churches come together to help those in need in communities throughout Baldwin
County; and
WHEREAS, in the year 2020, EMI celebrates 50 years of service; and
WHEREAS, EMI volunteers, staff and donors helped more than 96,000 individuals
facing emergencies, including providing more than a million meals through their
pantries; and
WHEREAS, EMTs Meals on Wheels volunteers and staff delivered more than a half-
million low-cost meals to elderly, shut-ins, and handicapped individuals; and
WHEREAS, EMI volunteers, staff and donors have repaired more than 480 low-
income, owner-occupied houses in the last fi ve years - many of them roofs that saved a
house or handicap ramps which provide critical access to a home; and
WHEREAS, EMI volunteers, staff and donors provided more than 25,000 hand-picked
Christmas gifts to low income children and elderly; and
WHEREAS, EMI volunteers, staff and donors initiated paving of 350 miles of roads in
rural communities — many of them serving low income families; and
WHEREAS, EMI volunteers, staff and donors initiated racial reconciliation
opportunities for thousands of individuals; and
