The City Council met in a Work Session
at 4:30 p.m., Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber,
161 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532,
on Monday, 9 December 2019.
Present were Councilmembers: Robert Brown (Presiding Official), Jimmy Conyers,
and Kevin Boone, Mayor Karin Wilson, City Attorney Marcus E. McDowell, and
City Clerk Lisa A. Hanks. Council President Jack Burrell and Councilmember Jay
Robinson were absent.
Councilmember Brown called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m.
The following topics were discussed:
• The Discussion of Quail Creek Golf Course Proposed New Rates was first of the
agenda. Special Projects Manager Lynn Maser and Recreation Director Pat White
addressed the City Council and explained the need for all annual passes to be
increased by $100.00; and the need for a percentage increase after 3 years. The
consensus of the City Council was to move forward with the increase.
• IT Director Jeff Montgomery addressed the City Council and explained the new
copier and printer concept that should save money for the City; especially on ink and
toner. The new system would allow the employee to swipe his/her badge to access
the printer which would keep track on copies. The consensus of the City Council
was to move forward with the new copiers and process.
• Councilmember Boone stated the Personnel Board met and safety was discussed.
• Councilmember Conyers mentioned the Fairhope Environmental Advisory Board,
Historic Preservation Committee, and the Library Board.
• Councilmember Brown commented the Education Advisory Board held its last
meeting; and stated the terms for the appointments to the Fairhope Public Schools
Commission.
• Public Works Director Richard Johnson addressed the City Council regarding the
Rebuild Alabama grant met the deadline for the sidewalk grant for Fairwood
Boulevard. He commented the Pedestrian and Bicycle Committee wrote a letter in
support for the grant. Mr. Johnson mentioned the Fairhope Docks regarding the
demolition of travel lift and a change order; explained agenda items for Public
Works, sidewalk projects, and garbage (one day to two day comparison).
• Special Projects Manager Lynn Maser addressed the City Council and stated
Thanksgiving Dinner at Fairhope Docks was a success; and word is getting out to
"loopers" for next years. She announced the first annual Employee Happy Hour at
the Quail Creek Clubhouse from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. along with discounted
shopping.
