HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-26-2019 Regular Meeting MinutesSTATE OF ALABAMA )( COUNTY OF BALDWIN )( The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at 6:00 p.m., Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber, 161 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on Monday. 26 August 2019. Present were Council President Jack Burrell, Councilmembers: Jay Robinson, Jimmy Conyers, Robert Brown, and Kevin Boone, Mayor Karin Wilson, City Attorney Marcus E. McDowell, and City Clerk Lisa A. Hanks. There being a quorum present, Council President Burrell called the meeting to order at 6:11 p.m. The invocation was given by Marshall Frye, Youth Pastor of Celebration Church, and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Coimcilmember Conyers moved to approve minutes of the 8 August 2019, special-called meeting; minutes of the 12 August 2019, regular meeting; minutes of the 12 August 2019, work session; and minutes of the 12 August 2019, agenda meeting. Seconded by Councilmember Boone, motion passed unanimously by voice vote. Mayor Wilson addressed the City Council regarding the veto of Ordinance No. 1653. She priased Chief Hollinghead in her duties since her appointment; addressing ongoing concerns as well as being pro-active. Mayor Wilson said she had some other priorities that came up while this Ordinance was under review. She signed Ordinance No. 1653 the day following its approval as normal. She started to have an inllux of concern from citi.zens pertaining to the legality of the Ordinance. Looking back she may have signed Ordinance No. 1653 in haste. She mentioned possible alterations to Ordinance No. 1653, The following individual(s) addressed the City Council regarding Agenda Items: 1) Jim Beck, 413 Azalea St, addressed the City Council on Agenda Item Number 5. He believes Ordinance Number 1653 needs work and should exclude the Police Jurisdiction. He believes this Ordinance will put an additional burden on the Police Department. Councilmember Brown reminded everyone about the Special lax District P.efrendum vote on September 17, 2019 and the public fonjin being held to address any questions and concerns the pubhc may have at the Libraiy on September 5, 20i 9, between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
