PRESENT WERE MAYOR NAMES P. NIX; COUNCILMEMBERS MICHAEL A. FORD, DEBBIE W. QUINN, AND JEANETTE PUCKETT; CITY ATTORNEY MARION E. WYNNE, AND CITY CLERK GENIECE W. JOHNSON. COUNCILMEMBER JOHN V. DUCK AND COUNCILMEMBER WILLIAM H. JONES WERE ABSENT. THERE BEING A QUORUM PRESENT, MAYOR NIX CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER. COUNCILMEMBER FORD MOVED TO APPROVE MINUTES OF THE 27 APRIL 1 998 REGULAR MEETING. SECONDED BY COUNCILMEMBER QUINN, MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. MAYOR NIX DIGRESSED FROM THE PRINTED AGENDA TO PRESENT FREDERICK L. CORTE JR WITH A SCHOLARSHIP FROM AMEA IN THE AMOUNT OF $ 1,800.00. MR. CORTE WILL ATTEND AUBURN UNIVERSITY. COUNCILMEMBER FORD INTRODUCED IN WRITING, AND MOVED FOR THE ADOPTION OF THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION. SECONDED BY COUNCILMEMBER PUCKETT, MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. RESOLUTION NO.593-98 WHEREAS, there exists abutting the south right-of-way of Fairwood Boulevard east of North Section Street a certain paved, traveled way accessing the lands of the Baldwin County Board of Education from said Fairwood Boulevard, and; WHEREAS, the said accessway has existed and has served the public for more than twenty years, and; WHEREAS, the said Baldwin County School Board, the original record owners of the subject lands, assessed as Tax Parcel Number 05-46-03-37-0-004-113.000, has requested that the said accessway be named Elizabeth Lane; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE, ALABAMA that the said accessway be and hereby is named Elizabeth Lane and shall hereafter be so known and so designated in the City's records. MIKE MEGGINSON ADDRESSED THE COUNCIL REQUESTING TO HAVE A OUTREACH CONCERT ON FAIRHOPE BEACH ON FRIDAY, JUNE 5, 1 998 FROM 7:00-9:30 P.M. THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL HAD RESERVATION ABOUT ALLOWING THE CONCERT TO TAKE PLACE UNDER THE PAVILION. THE PAVILION IS NOT AN AREA RESERVED BY THE CITY, IT IS USED ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS. THE MAYOR EXPLAINED THAT THOSE PERSONS THAT ARE WITHOUT BEACH STICKERS WOULD HAVE TO PAY. AFTER FURTHER DISCUSSION, MR. MEGGINSON AGREED TO MOVE THE CONCERT TO THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE BEACH. COUNCILMEMBER PUCKETT MOVED TO GRANT THE REQUEST TO HAVE AN OUTREACH CONCERT ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE BEACH. SECONDED BY COUNCILMEMBER QUINN, MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. COUNCILMEMBER FORD MOVED TO GRANT THE REQUEST OF THE RESIDENTS OF PATLYNN DRIVE (FROM 500 PATLYNN DRIVE NORTH), GREENWOOD AVENUE, ALLISON COURT AND USLIE COURT TO HAVE A STREET PARTY ON SUNDAY, MAY 17, 1 998 FROM 3:00-6:00 P.M. SECONDED BY COUNCILMEMBER QUINN, MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. COUNCILMEMBER QUINN MOVED TO GRANT THE REQUEST OF THE EASTERN SHORE ART CENTER TO HOLD THEIR ANNUAL OUTDOOR ARE SHOW, MARCH 1 9, 20, AND 2 1, 1 999, ON OAK STREET, FROM BANCROFT TO SECTION STREET, AND UP SECTION STREET ONE-HALF BLOCK PAST EQUALITY STREET. SECONDED BY COUNCILMEMBER PUCKETT, MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. COUNCILMEMBER FORD MOVED TO APPROVE INSURANCE COVERAGE ON THE FOLLOWING VOLUNTEER FIRE PERSONS: JIMMY CLUSTER, ZACHARY HOLLIMAN AND DELETE KEVIN GRAY. SECONDED BY COUNCILMEMBER QUINN, MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY COUNCILMEMBER PUCKETT MOVED TO RESCHUDULE THE NEXT REGULAR MEETING FROM MONDAY, MAY 25T" TO THURSDAY, MAY 28T", DUE TO MEMORIAL DAY. SAME TIME AND PLACE. SECONDED BY COUNCILMEMBER FORD, MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. COUNCILMEMBER QUINN MOVED TO PAY BILLS AS PRESENTED. SECONDED BY COUNCILMEMBER PUCKETT, MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. 2159 I I MAY 1998 MAYOR NIX ANNOUNCED THAT CHANNEL 1 5 WILL BE BROADCASTING LIVE DOWNTOWN FAIRHOPE THIS EVENING.
