HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-12-1994 Regular Meeting1595 STATE OF ALABAMA 0 COUNTY OF BALDWIN 0 The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at 5:30 pm; Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber; 161 North Section Street; Fairhope, Alabama 36532; on Monday, 12 September 1994. Present were Mayor James P. Nix; Councilmembers John V. Duck, Michael A. Ford, David E. Bishop, Jeanette Puckett, and Layton Overstreet; City Attorney Marion E. Wynne and City Clerk Evelyn Phillips. No one was absent. There being a quorum present, Mayor Nix called the meeting to order. Minutes of the 22 August 1994 regular session were duly approved. Council discussed a request from the Fairhopers' Community Park Committee. Ms. Donna Bradley represented the Committee and explained their request to close Church Street between Morphy and Fairhope Avenues on Sunday, October 23rd, from approximately 3:00 to 7:00 pm, is to hold a fund-raising music event to be entitled "Parkstock". The request has al- ready been approved by the police department. Councilman Bishop moved to approve the request. Seconded by Councilman Overstreet, motion passed unanimously. The Fairhope Public Library asks to be allowed to use the old Probate Office space in the Municipal Complex, now that USA has moved to other quarters. Councilwoman Puckett moved to approve the request. Seconded by Councilman Duck, motion passed unanimously. Council reviewed an application for a Beer Off -Premises License by Gerald D. Myers, dba RONNIE'S BAYSIDE, located at 369 South Mobile Street. No one present was opposed to the license. There was police approval of the applicant. Council- man Ford moved to approve the issuance of the license. Seconded by Councilman Duck, motion passed unanimously. Council reviewed an application for a Beer Off -Premises License and a Wine Off -Premises License by Nancy A. Hall, President of, and dba, JO JO's, INC., 404 North Section Street. No one present was opposed to the licenses. There was police approval of the applicant. Councilman Duck moved to approve the issuance of the licenses. Seconded by Councilman Overstreet, motion passed unanimously. 12 September 1994 1596 The Alabama Department of Transportation advised by letter that they approve a betterment upgrade on the relocation of gas lines, US 98 widening project, and the cost will be $15,074.26. The upgrade is to increase pressure by going from 3/4-inch to 2-inch pipe and valves. Councilman Bishop moved to approve the extra cost. Seconded by Councilman Ford, motion passed unanimously. Mayor Nix and Gas Supt Steve Seay advised the Council that they are discussing the possiblity of our buying some of our natural gas from the Danny Well in South Baldwin County. If this source proves to be feasible, and less expensive, they will come back to Council for purchasing authorization. Council took the following action on bids: 7.000 POUNDS ANNUAL RYEGRASS SEED - GOLF COURSE Vendor Gulf Shore Turf Sup Pensacola, FL Lesco, Inc Rocky River, OH Tieco, Inc Pensacola, FL Terra International Summerdale Total Cost Delivery $ 4,970 30 days $ 5,880 10-15 days $ 5,180 10 days $ 5,033 5 days Sunbelt Seeds, Norcross, GA; Beard Equipment, Pensacola, FL; Truf-Seed, Hubbard, OR; and Vaughn's Seed, Bound Brook, IL, made No Response. It is recommended to accept the low bid by Gulf Shore Turf Supply at $4,970.00. --T. Mitchell, Grounds--W.Smith, Purch. Agt. Councilwoman Puckett moved to accept the low bid by Gulf Shore Turf Supply, provided all specifications are met. Seconded by Councilman Overstreet, motion passed unanimously. TRAILER - FOR HAULING SLUDGE (W&S), SOME USE BY TRASH DEPT Purchasing Agent Smith reports bid requests were sent out to twelve vendors, none of whom could offer a bid. One vendor, Gulf City Body & Trailer, offered a used 1979 aluminum trailer at $14,500.00 and Smith recommended it be purchased. After some discussion, Councilman Ford moved to purchase the used trailer. Seconded by Councilman Bishop, motion passed unanimously. Councilman Overstreet moved to pay bills as presented. Seconded by Councilman Duck, motion passed unanimously. Mr. Witt Ruffin and Mr. Brian Smallwood attended the session to earn their Citizenship in the Community Scout Badge.
