HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-13-1988 Regular Meeting944 STATE OF ALABAMA X COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City,Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at 5:30 pm; Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber; 161 North Section Street; Fairhope, Alabama 36532; on Monday, 13 June 1988. Present were Mayor James P. Nix; Councilmembers Roy C. White, Jeanette Puckett, David E. Bishop, Michael A. Ford, and Barney L. Shull; City Attorney James Reid and City Clerk Evelyn Phillips. No one was absent. There being a quorum present, Mayor Nix called the meeting to order. Minutes of the 25 May 1988 regular session, and the 6 June 1988 adjourned regular session, were duly approved. Mayor Nix advised that he and the Council were agreed not to hold a third session in June so there will be no regular session on June 27th. Council reviewed an application for a Beer On/Off Premises License and a Wine On/Off Premises License by Kenneth Richardson, dba ROMEO'S PIZZA, located in Baldwin Square Shopping Center. No one present was opposed to the licenses. There was police approval. Councilman Ford moved to approve the licenses. Seconded by Councilman Shull, motion passed unanimously. A written report from License Officer Mary Ziegler was dis- cussed. Business License #1105, issued 26 May 1988, to "Larry P. Dawkins", dba "American BanCard Center", for the purpose of professional services, appeared to contain several points of false information. Ms. Ziegler, and Zoning Officer Bob Lunsford, who assisted in the investigation, recommended Council consider revocation of said License as provided in Section 8-25, City of Fairhope Code of Ordinances. Councilman White moved to revoke License No. 1105. Seconded by Councilwoman Puckett, motion passed unanimously. Councilman Bishop introduced, and moved for the adoption of, the following resolution. S�S" WHEREAS, Act No. 88-548 provides that members of the Employees Retirement System, State of Alabama, may retire with twenty-five years of service with no reduction in benefits; and E WHEREAS, said Act is to become effective the first of the month following actuarial certification; and WHEREAS, said certification by the actuary is dated June Z, 1988;' THEN, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE i GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE That members of the City of Fairhope unit of the State Employees Retirement System are hereby approved for participation in the twenty-five year retirement with no reduction of benefits effective 1 .Tuly 1988 as provided in Act No. 88-548. i 4 ADOPTED THIS 13th DAY OF.JUNE, 1988. s O4 City er c i ip I Jame P. Nix, Mayor 13 June 1988 Council congratulated Attorney James H. Reid, Jr. on his recent election to the office of Circuit Judge, 28th Judicial Circuit of the State of Alabama. Mr. Reid will take office in January, 1989. For insurance purposes, Councilwoman Puckett moved to approve the addition of Stephen Lanier Sparks and Kenneth Maxwell Parmer to the Police Reserve. Seconded by Councilman Ford, motion passed unanimously. Street Superintendent Tim Kant displayed a plaque recently awarded to the City by the All American Rose Garden Association for the City's Rose Garden located at the Municipal Pier. Councilwoman Puckett moved to pay bills as presented. Seconded by Councilman Shull, motion passed unanimously. Superintendent Kant advised Council that the recent increase to $8.00 per car at the Beach was having an adverse effect. Visitors from outside of town,are parking in the Oval and on the side streets and walking in, thus paying a $1.00 walk-in fee. After some discussion, Councilman Shull moved to increase the walk-in fee to $3.00 per person, effective immediately. Seconded by Councilman Bishop, motion passed unanimously. Mr. Charles Cummings, a resident who lives near Stimpson Field, complained about the softball games going on until 11:00 and asked why the schedules had been changed. He. said there had been no problem before the current season. Mr. Cummings was advised that the games were handled by the Recreation Board. Councilman Shull said he was not'aware of any changes but he would find out about it. He also invited Mr. Cummings to attend the Recreation Board meeting.
