HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-26-1986 Regular Meeting748 STATE OF ALABAMA X COUNTY OF BALDWIN X The City Council, City of Fairhope, Alabama, met in regular session at 5:30, p.m., Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber, 161 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on Monday, 26 May 1986. Present were Mayor James P. Nix; Councilmembers Roy C. White, Trisha Lo Porto, David E. Bishop, Michael A. Ford, and Barney L. Shull; City Attorney James Reid and City Clerk Evelyn Phillips. No one was absent. There being a quorum present, Mayor Nix called.the meeting to order. Minutes of the 12 May 1986 regular session were duly approved. Council reviewed the following bid openings: FOURTH OF JULY FIREWORKS: Bids opened 5/23/86, 10 : 00 am, as advertised. Vendor Cost Delivery Zambelli Fireworks New Castle, Pa $ 3,770.00 20 days Vitale Fireworks New Castle, Pa $ 3,950.00 21 days Southern International Fireworks, Atlanta $ 42599.00 30 days Low bidder, Zambelli, is recommended for acceptance by Purchasing Agent & Volunteer Firemen Rejczyk and Fuqua. Councilwoman Lo Porto moved to accept the low bid. Seconded by Councilman White, motion passed unanimously. TRUCK BODY FOR WATER & SEWER DEPT : Bids opened 5/26, 10: 00 am, as advertised. Vendor Cost General Truck Sales Birmingham No Bid. Truck Equipment Sales Theodore $ 3,798.00 Delivery 21 days Altec Industries Birmingham $ 4,306.00 110 days Low bid by Truck Equipment is recommended by Purchasing Agent and W&S Supt. Rejczyk. Councilwoman Lo Porto moved to accept the low bid, provided all specifications are met. Seconded by Councilman Shull, motion passed unanimously. 26 May 1986 749 Council discussed a street improvement assessments project, interest in which had begun about 1 year ago. Councilman Bishop moved to hire Moore Engineering Company on a contingency basis for the preparation of data for the Initial Ordinance. Seconded by Councilman Shull, motion passed unanimously. Councilman White moved to continue leasing the 1946 Ford Fire Truck to the Styx River Volunteer Fire Department instead of offering the Truck at public auction. Seconded by Council- woman Lo Porto, motion passed unanimously. Councilman White introduced, and moved for the adoption of, the following Resolution. Seconded by Councilman Shull, motion passed unanimously: RESOLUTION NO. 187-86 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE, ALABAMA, That the Mayor is hereby authorized to execute a contract for Engineering Investigation of Water Pipe Corrosion between the City and FRED A. LEWTER III, P.E. CONSULTING ENGINEER ROUTE 16, BOX 172 MOBILE, ALABAMA 36609 633-0680, 633-7368 Mr. Lewter's fee is Sixty Dollars ($60.00) per hour. Estimated time: 20 to 25 hours Estimated Report to Council: June 9, 1986. ADOPTED THIS 26th DAY OF MAY, 1986. Councilman Ford moved to delete ALBERT COTTEN from the Police Reserve effective immediately as requested by Secretary Bob Lunsford. Seconded by Councilwoman Lo Porto, motion passed unanimously. Councilman Shull moved to change Beach Charge from $3.00 to $5.00 per car with up to 6 passengers, $1.00 each person over 6, $1.00 per walk-in, effective immediately. Seconded by Councilman Ford, motion passed unanimously. Councilman Bishop introduced, and moved for the adoption of, the following Resolution. Seconded by Councilman Shull, motion passed unanimously: 26 May 1986 750 RESOLUTION'NO: 188-86 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE THAT the Mayor is authorized to have pre- pared a new lease, and to execute same, between the City and THEATRE 98 on the theatre building located on the corner of Church Street and Morphy Avenue; the new lease to be for Five (5) Years, beginning 1 June 1986; all terms and conditions of the new lease to be identical to those set out in the present lease (which will expire 14 November 1987) WITH THE ADDITION of a clause to allow Leasee Theatre 98 to cancel said lease by a Six - Month written notice to Landlord (City) requesting same. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That present Lease is herewith terminated as of 31 May 1986 by mutual agreement and unused monthly advance rental is herewith applied to the first 17 and 1/2 months (6/l/86-11/15/87) of the new Lease.
