HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-22-1985 Regular Meeting675 STATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN I The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in regular session at 5:30 o'clock, PM, Fairhope Municipal Complex Council Chamber, 161 North Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on Monday, 22 July 1985. Present were Mayor James P. Nix; Councilmembers Roy C. White, Trisha Nelson, David E. Bishop, and Michael A. Ford; City Attorney James,Reid and City Clerk Evelyn Phillips.. Councilman Barney L. Shull was absent. There being a quorum present, Mayor Nix called the meeting to order. Minutes of the 8 July 1985 regular session were duly approved. Councilman Ford asked to delay his report on the Beach erosion at the end of White Avenue until next regular session so Council- man Shull could be present and present his findings at the same time. Councilman White moved to accept Dr. H. B. Shepherd's resig- nation from the Fairhope Library Board, effective July 31st. Seconded by Councilwoman Nelson, motion passed unanimously. Mayor Nix will write a letter of appreciation to Dr. Shepherd for his service to the City on this Board. Mayor Nix reported that bids were received by CDBG Adminis- trator Tommie Werneth on laying some 840 linear feet of 45x29" concrete pipe along Greeno Road. James Brothers Excavating bid $4,158.00 (4.95 lf) and Valta Construction bid $8.862.00 (10.55 lf. Councilman White introduced, and moved for the adoption of, the following Resolution to accept the low bid. Seconded by Council- woman Nelson, motion passed unanimously: RESOLUTION NO. 161-85 WHEREAS, Proposals were received by the City of Fairhope to perform certain tasks relative to improving the drainage facilities in and along US 98 as a part of its CDBG project; and WHEREAS, James Brothers Excavating Company of Daphne, Alabama, was the low bidder; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE That Mayor James P. Nix is hereby authorized to execute a contract with James Brothers Excavating to install drain- age pipe in conformance with and according to the State of Alabama Highway Department specifications. ADOPTED THIS 22nd DAY OF JULY, 1985. �J O l J P. Nix, Mayor 22 July 1985 676 Councilwoman Nelson moved to hear the following business not on the Agenda. Seconded by Councilman Ford, motion passed unanimously: Attorney Reid advised that several Utility Accounts had been turned over to him for collection. Mr. Reid asked if the Council wanted to handle this on an hourly -rate basis or on a contingency basis. Contingency would be 25% of any amount collected without going to court, and 33-1/3% of any amount collected with court action. Councilman Bishop moved in favor of the contingency basis. Seconded by Councilman Ford, motion passed unanimously. Mayor Nix announced that a fetter was going to be sent to all citizens of Fairhope regarding Trash Pickup Service in an effort to start a war on litter. Many people are placing trash in the gutters and drainage ditches which is resulting in stopped up drains and flooding. The letter is to make them aware of which day of the week their trash will be picked up and ask that they not put trash out a week ahead of pickup day. Mayor Nix asked the Council to have some suggestions at the next regualr meeting on other ways to further this cleanup campaign. Meeting was duly adjourned. `Cityer
