HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-09-1980 Special MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN X We, the undersigned members of the Fairhope City Council, do hereby waive notice of a special called meeting to be held 9 July 1980 at 11:30 a.m., City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope Avenue, Fairhope, Alabama, for the purpose of canvassing the election held 8 July 1980. Councilmember n Attest &�L 9 - - City erk J 192 The City Council, City of Fairhope, met in special session at 11:30 a.m. City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope Avenue, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on Wednesday, 9 July 1980. Present were Mayor James P. Nix, Councilmembers C.O. McCawley, Sam E. Box, Trisha Nelson, and Jack A. Stipes; City Attorney John Duck and City Clerk Evelyn Phillips. Councilman David Ed Bishop could not be present due to business ca-mitments. The purpose of this session was to canvass the results of the Municipal Election held on 8 July 1980. Councilman McCawley presided as the Mayor'sduly appointed substitute in matters relating to the Election. Councilman McCawley opened and read aloud the canvass of votes for each machine, absentee ballots and challenge ballots. After the votes were tabulated, Councilman Box, introduced, and moved for the adoption of, the following Resolution. Seconded by Councilman Stipes, motion passed by the following unanimous vote: AYE -Mayor Nix and Councilmembers Box, Stipes, Nelson, and McCawley. NAY -none. RESOLUTION (BEGINNING PARAGRAPHS OF THIS RESOLUTION ON PAGE 192A) NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fairhope, Alabama as follows: 1. That JAMES P. NIX received a majority of the votes cast for the office of Mayor and is hereby declared duly elected to that office for the term beginning 6 October 1980. 2. That DAVID ED BISHOP received a majority of the votes cast for the office of Councilmember, Place No. 1, and is hereby declared duly elected to that office for the term beginning 6 October, 1980. 3. That TRISHA NELSON received a majority of the votes cast for the office of Counci7member Place No. 2; and is hereby declared duly elected to that office for the term beginning g 6 October, 1980. 4. That no candidate received a majority of the votes cast for the office of Councilmenber, Place No. 3, and that ROY C. WHITE and ABNER H. BEARD received the most and second most votes cast for that office, therefore a runoff election between said candidates is hereby ordered to be held on 29 July 1980. 5. That no candidate received a majority of the votes cast for the office of Councilmember, Place No. 5, and that SAM E. BOX and REBECCA THOMAS SEBRING received the most and second most votes cast for that office therefore a runoff election between said candidates is hereby ordered to be held on 29 July 1980. S, RESOLUTION 192A WHEREAS, the general election for the City of Fairhope was duly and legally held on 8 July 1980, as provided by law, and WHEREAS, the municipal governing body of the City of Fairhope met on this 9th 0 day of July, 1980, all mwbers (or 'a quorum) thereof being present, at 11:30 o'clock A.M., and has canvassed the returns, and has ascertained and determined the number of votes received by each candidate, and.
