I r f a h - M . Z "r Counc' ember er (June 26'80) The City Council, City of Fairhope met in special session at 5:00 p.m., 387 Fairhope Avenue, City Administration Building, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, on Thursday, 26 June 1980. The purpose of this meeting was to talk with the Baldwin County Board of Commissioners relative to a reappraisal project ordered by the State of Alabama.. Present were Mayor James P. Nix; Councihnanbers C.O. McCawley, Sam E. Box, Trisha N6-lson, and Jack A. Stipes; and City Clerk Evelyn P. Phillips. Councilman David Ed Bishop could not be present. Mr. Jeffrey H. Blood, Director of County Development, read to the Council the directive from Alabama's Commissioner of Revenue Ralph P. Eagerton, Jr., ordering a new appraisal project of all property located within the County at its fair market value at 1 October 1980; said project to begin 1 August 1980 and be completed not later than 30 September 1982. Mr. Blood and Commissioner Jerry Boyington, stated they had asked for this meeting with the Council in order to gain input from the Council before reaching a decision between the following two alternate courses of action: 1. Do the appraisal - approximate cost $500,000.00 for the two year period. 2. Let the State do the appraisal - approximate cost uniaiawn. It was brought out that the City of Fairhope alone had paid over $38,000.00 since 1974 for reappraisals. Also, if the County does the work, it still must be certified by the State.... therefore, two years from now, State might not certify and the cost krill have been for nothing. Everyone agreed the main point was to have the job done right so it would not keep costing money. Counci]man McCawley mack the following motion: The Council recommends to the County Commissioners that the State of Alabama do the appraisal work if the Cor_ussioners agree the State should do it. Seconded by Councilwoman Nelson, motion passed unanimously. Meeting was duly adjourned. City Cleoc 191
