HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-22-1975 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular session at the City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope Avenue, Monday, December 22, 1975 at 7:00 P.M. with the following members present: Mayor James P. Nix, Councilmen: David E. Bishop, H. G. Bishop, Sam,.E. Box, 011ie E. Deese and Barney L. Shull. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved. Parker and White, Auditors, presented a brief report on the General Fund Audit. Assets of the City are up $305,000.00 over the previous year while Liabilities are down $9,000.00 which reflects strong financial condition. Revenues were up $153,000.00 while expenses were down $25,000.00. . Auditors commended the Mayor and City Council on the past year stating that the audit shows good operation and the City in good financial condition. This being date'set for opening bids on sale of old truck and car, only one bid was received on the truck in the amount of $40.00. Motion by Councilman Sam Box seconded by Councilman David Bishop that the City reject bid and accept recommendation of the City Superintendent and negotiate for the sale of the vehiclesI Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Barney Shull seconded by Councilman 011ie Deese that the application of Clinton E. Mathis for packaged Beer Permit at the M & M Quick Stop on Greeno Road be approved. Upon being put to vote the following vote was recorded: For: Councilmen H. G. Bishop, Sam E. Box, 011ie E. Deese and Barney L. Shull. Against: Councilman David Bishop. Motion carried. Mr. George Vekroukos requested that the Council reconsider his Beer and Liquor license at Big Daddy Lounge and assured the Council that he would control any problems there might be. Motion by Councilman H. G. Bishop seconded by Councilman Barney Shull that Council permit the Lounge to operate but not under a Club license, close at 12:00 Midnight and not open on Sunday. Motion carried. The following were appointed by Mayor Nix as enumerators on the Census: Mary L. Atkins, Brenda L. Barron, Loretta Bellucci, Julius E. Bellue, Michael L.Cochran, Beth Ann Danner, Earline M. Davis, Marianne R. Eddins, Peggy Ann Edgeworth, Pamela R. Gomez, Rhonda Griffin, Lenee M. Guthrie, Ellen A. Harris, Catherine T. Harris, Joseph Jurjevich, Jeff Levensailor, Craig Lindsey, Beverly Anne Locke, Karen D. Mosley, Rachell W. Nichols, Susan M. O'Neal, Sheila F. Peters, Gregory T. Petersen, Carl L. Sawyer, Tisa D. Steiner, Ronald E. Smith, Rob M. Todd, George F. Veit, Robert B. Wallace, Susan M. Whitfield, Janita R. Williams, Leesa C. Williams and Gayle R. Wilson. The results of the census being 5,609 White and 454 Non -white, making a total of 6,063 within the City Limits of ,the City of FAirhope. Motion by Councilman Sam Box seconded by Councilman Barney Shull that Council approve appo,intm.ent.s 'of the Mayor. Motion carried. Russ Kilgore, Chairman of the Airport Board, reported on past years operation. Last project has now been completed and applicati for final payment has been submitted. Aust-Ponder, Engineer, is in the process of submitting preliminary application to F. A. A. under ADA program, at no cost to the City, for resurfacing runways. Motion by Councilman Barney Shull seconded by Councilman 011ie Deese that Council accept report as presented. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman David E. Bishop seconded by Councilman Barney Shull that the following Resolution be adopted. Motion carried. RESOLUTION BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Fairhope, Alabama, that the Resolution heretofore adopted by said City Council on the loth day of November, 1975, wherein and whereby MRS. ROBERT SMYER was nominated and appointed to fulfill the unexpired term of DR. ROBERT McKEE as a member of the Medical Clinic Board of the City of Fairhope, Alabama, be amended by add- ing to MRS. SMYER'S name "also known as GAY ELLIS SMYER and also known as GAY SMYER". Councilman 011ie Deese moved that the new Stadium be named thi Barney Shull Stadium in recognition of the many years that Council. man Shull has served on the Recreation Board and his untiring efforts on projects undertaken by the Board. The Council was in agreement that Councilman Shull should be commended for his work but the City has not been naming any of their parks or buildings for individuals and felt that the motion should be held for more thought. Residents of the North Bay View area expressed their apprecia• tion to the Council for the work that has been done in the park area on N. Bay View. Motion duly made, seconded and carried that the meeting adjourn. Attest:
