HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-13-1975 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular session at the City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope Avenue, 'Monday October 13, 1975, at 7:00 P.M. The follocrLng members were present: Mayor James P. Nix, Councilmen David E. Bishop, H.G. Bishop, Sam E. Box, 011ie E. Deese, and Barney L. Shull. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were approved. Insurance proposals from four companies were presented . The proposals were turned over to a committee for study. Committee members selected for insurance study are Councilman David E. Bishop, Councilman H.G. Bishop and Councilman 011ie E. Deese. Mrs. Betty Annan representing Girl Scout Council Neighborhood No. 9 presented Girl Scout plans for Bi-Centennial project. The project will be the labeling of trees on the north slope be- tween the Fairhope High School and the Art Center, as to type and origin. Motion by Councilman Barney L. Shull, seconded by Council- man H.G. Bishop to authorize the Girl Scouts to go ahead with plans for Bi-Centennial project. Motion carried. The Recreation Board members were present to ask the Mayor and Council to consider a cigarette tax increase of one cent per pack- age in order to provide additional needed revenues for the Recrea- tion Department. The suggested tax increase was turned over to the City Attorney for research. This being date for opening bids on two new police cars the follow- ing bids were received: Gaston Motor' Company $ 8,975.00 Steber Chevrolet 8,740.00 Motion by Councilman H.G.' .G. Bishop, seconded by Councilman Sam E. Box that lowest bid be accepted subject to specifications. Motion carried., Motion by Councilman 33r:irney L. Shull, seconded by Councilman Sam E. Box that the City advertise for public hearing on the re- zoning of Alley property from R-2 to B-4 as recommended by the Planning Commission. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Barney L. Shull seconded by Councilman 011ie E. Deese that the City complete advertising for public hearing on the rezoning of the south side of Morphy between Summit and Church Streets as recommended by the Planning Commission. Motion carried. r Motion by Councilman H.G. Bishop seconded by Councilman Barney L. Shull to accept and adopt the budget as proposed by the Mayor for the fiscal year October 1, 1.975 thru Sept- ember 30, 1976, to include a five percent pay raise for all City Employees effective October 24, 1975 pay period. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman H.G. Bishop seconded by Councilman Sam E. Box that bills=be-approved for payment. Motion carried. Councilman Sam E. Box wished for his congratulations to go on record to, Mr.. Mike Rej czyk% and_ Mr . Gene Fuqua for holding their department expenditur_es.to a minimum. The Mayor and Council wish to go on record expressing their congr-atulat.ions to Mr. Mike-Rejczyk and Mr. Ronald Davidson for their recent upgrading on the improvement exam. Mr. Rejczyk was upgraded to four and Mr. Davidson was upgraded to three. Councilman Sam E. Box moved for permission to advertise for bids for topping a sixteen.inch line on Nichols Street, seconded by Councilman Barney L. Shull. '`lotion carried. On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the meeting adjourned.
