HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-22-1973 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA, COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular session_ at the City Administration Building, 387 Fairhope Avenue, Monday, October 22, 1973 at 7:00 P.M. with the following members present: I-layor James P. Nix, Councilmen: David (Ed) Bishop, H. G. Bishop, Sam E. Box, 011ie E. Deese and Barney L. Shull. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were approved. This being date set for public hearing on rezoning Lots 10 & 119 South Section Street, protests were heard from residents in the area and those in favor of the proposed rezoning were heard. The Planning and Zoning Commission recommended to Council that property be rezoned subject to chain link fence and 5 ft. green belt between rezoned lots and adjacent H-1 ownership. Councilman Sam Box moved that the follow- ing Ordinance be introduced: ORDINANCE N0. SJ3 -4 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ZONING ORDINANCE NO. 295, SECTION 13, DIST.,3ICT BOUNDARIES. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE, ALABAMA, that Section 13, District Boundaries of Ordinance No. 295 be amended by rezoning the following described property from R-1 to A-3 subject to chain link fence and 5 ft. green belt between re- zoned property and adjacent R-1 ownership as recommended by the Planning and Zoning Commission: Lots 10 & 11 located at 211 South Section Street In the City of Fairhope, Alabama. I 0 Motion by Councilman Shull seconded by Councilman Ed Bishop that the proposed Amendments to Zoning Ordinance No. 295 be accepted for advertising for public hearing on November 12, 1973. !,lotion carried. Motion by Councilman Ed Bishop seconded by Councilman 011ie Deese that City accept Pel- ormance Bond of Major Homes, Inc. on Paddock Estates as presented. Motion_ carried. Motion by Councilman Ed Bishop seconded by Councilman H. G. Bishop that the request of Revco Southern Drug Centers, Inc. for package beer permit at Eastern Shore Shopping Center be denied. Upon being put to vote, the following vote was recorded: For: Councilmen: Ed Bishop, H. G. Bishop, 011ie Deese and Barney Shull. Against: Council- man. Sam Box. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman H. G. Bishop seconded by Councilman Barney Shull that the !Mayor be authorized to enter into lease agreement with Xerox for copy machine. Notion carried. Motion by Councilman Sam Box seconded by Councilman Ed Bishop that City reject bid of 31*4 Co. for copy machine. 171otion carried. Mayor Nix reported that United Gas Pine Line has placed City on quota for natural gas not to exceed amount used last year. Motion by Council- man Sam Box seconded by Councilman H. G. Bishop that the City complete gas lines that they are obligated to install and not accept anymore applications for gas service outside the City Limits at this time. Motion carried. e Motion by Councilman Box seconded by Councilman Deese that City reject all gas pipe bids at this time and return bids. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman 011ie Deese seconded by Councilman Ed Bishop that letter be sent to 1,1r. McWilliams of Mitchell Corp. granting 3rd ingress -egress at Eastern Shore Shopping Center on Greeno Road. Upon being put to vote the following vote was recorded: For: Council- men: Ed Bishop, H. G. Bishop, 011ie Deese and Barney Shull. Against: Councilman Sam Box. motion carried. This being date set for opening bids on water pipe, the following bids were received: Moore -Handley, Inc. 2.22 ft. Delivery 5 to 7 weeks. McWain Cast Iron Pipe Co. 2.26 ft. Delivery 21 days American Cast Iron Pipe Co. 2.19 ft. Delivery 40-45 days. Motion by Councilman Box seconded by Councilman Shull that City accept low bid of American Cast Iron Pipe Co. provided bid meets specifica- tions and delivery date is satisfactory. Motion carried. Representative of Burroughs Corp. presented Burroughs L8000 Computer. No action taken. Letter requesting the City to complete walkway -bikeway on Morphy Ave. and extend it to Greeno .Road was presented and taken under advisement. Council authorized Mayor Nix to write Southern Bell Telephone Company requesting that their cables be lowered on Morphy Avenue so th -City can continue their sidewalk program on,Morphy Avenue. 0 It was duly moved, seconded and -carried that the meeting adjourn.
