HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-13-1969 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BA LDWIN The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular session at the City Hall, Monday, January 13, 1969 at 7:30 P.M., with the following members present: Mayor Macon, Councilmen: Nix, Cowen, Boy Bishop and Robertson. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were approved. Mrs. Melrose, representing the Wisteria Garden Club, reported that the Club would like to replant the concrete planters on Fairhope Avenue, but needed assurance that the plants would be watered. Motion by Councilman Nix seconded by Councilman Cowen that the City accept responsibility to see that plants are watered as needed. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Cowen seconded by Councilman Nix that City crew be authorized to open a portion of Pensacola Avenue as reques ted by Mrs. J. O. Walker. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Robertson seconded by Councilman Cowen that Dr.' T. H. Yancey be reappointed to the Industrial Development Boar of the City of Fairhope for a six year term ending .on January 259 1975. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Cowen seconded by Councilman Robertson that Chief Gilheart be authorized to accept for the City, the bid of General Electric for Police Radio Equipment in the amount of $861.0 provided it meets City's specifications. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Nix seconded by Councilman.Cowen that Or dinan e No. 410 introduced at the regular meeting of December 9, 1968 be adopted as introduced. Motion carried. lotion by Councilman Robertson seconded by Councilman Nix that the following Ordiance be introduced: [-ORDINANCE NO. 411 BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of Fairhope, Alabama that Seddon 11-16 of the Co4e of Ordinances of the City of Fairhope 3e and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: 2 Sec. 11-16. Adopted by reference. All natural gas work and all materials and appliances used in connection therewith installed within the City shall conform to the rules and regulations and require- ments of the 1965 Southern Standard Gas Code, and the 1968 Revision thereto, and said rules and regulations are hereby adopted and approved as a part of the Code of Ordinances, Chapter 11, and by reference made a part thereof. Motion by Councilman Robertson seconded by Councilman Nix that the following Ordinance be introduced: ORDINANCE NO. 412 BE IT ORDAINED By the City Council of Fairhope, Alabama, Ithat Section 5-1 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Fairhope lbe, and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: Sec. 5-1. Adoption of Southern Standard Building Code, Southern Standard Building Code, Part III, (Plumbing) and Southern Standard Building Code. (For) the purpose of regulating the construction, alteration, repair and removal of buildings or struc- tures, there is hereby adopted the Southern Stan- dard Building Code, 1965 Edition with the 1968 Re- vision, and the Southern Standard Building Cpde, Part III (Plumbing), 1962-1963 Edition with the .r 1967---/ i4 Y t7e clt S/o)t5 1966 Revision thereto,4and the Southern Standard Building Code, 1965 Edition with the 1968 Revis- ions, three copies of which are on file in the office of the City Clerk; and the same are hereby adopted by reference as fully as if set out at length herein; subject, however, to all amendments, sub- stutions, deletions and modifications therein contained. 3. Motion by Councilman Cowen seconded by Councilman Box that the fol- lowing Resolution be.adopted: Motion carried. BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fairhope th4t a public hearing will be had at the City Hall of the City of Fair - hope at 7:30 P.M., Monday, February loth, 1969, to consider the City's adopting the amendments to the Southern Standard Building C de, adopting the 1968 Revisions of the 1965 Southern Standard Building Code and the 1966 Revision of the amendments to the Southern Standard Building Code, Part III (Plumbing), and the amendments to the S outf Standard Plumbing Code, 1968 Revision to the 1967 Edition, and the amendments to the Southern Standard gas Code, 1965 Edition as con- tained in the 1968 Revision; and that at least fifteen (15) days notice of the place and purpose of such hearing shall be given by publication in the Fairhope Courier once a week for two consecu- tive weeks. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that not less than three copies of such Code as amended shall be filed for not less than fifteen (15) days prior to the holding of said public meeting, for the use and examir tion by the public in the office of the City Clerk. Motion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Nix that City advertise for public hearing in conjunction with regular meeting of City Council on January 27, 1968 at 7:30 P7M. City Hall, on re- zoning from R-1 to R-3 property on Mobile Avenue known as Wyllie Property. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Box seconded by Councilman Cowen that bill of South Alabama Regional Planning Commission in the amount of $1,191.21 be approved for payment. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Nix seconded by Councilman Robertson that the City redouble their efforts in getting a second line or back up lir fern coming into the City to supply alternate power in case of emergency. Motion carried. 4. Motion by Councilman Bishop seconded by Councilman Cowen that City Clerk be authorized to cash $25,000.00 Electric Savings Certificate and transfer to Beach and Pier Account along with $20,000.00 from General Fund and $20,OOOX'00 from Electric Fund for purpose of meeting statements of Gulf City Construction Company in amount of $61,124.62 and Moore Engineering Company in the amount of $20037.49 on Pier project and approve payment of same. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Robertson seconded by Councilman Nix that the bills be approved for payment. Motion carried.
