HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-09-1968 Unadjourned Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in unadjourned -- regular session at the City Hall, Tuesday, July 9, 1968 at 5:00 P.1 with the following members present: Mayor R. C. Macon, Councilmen: Spader, Reynolds, Stipes, Gaston and Stine: Motion by Councilman Stine seconded by Councilman Gaston that the City of Fairhope cooperate with the Fairhope Golf and Country Club in every way possible in locating the golf course east of the City of Fairhope off Belforest Road, and more particularly as follows: 1. That the City of Fairhope install at its expense, the necessary gas service for residential use only to the 85 lots on the section line roads in the subdivision. 2. That the City of Fairhope will endeavor to help obtain water from the West Baldwin Water Authority to service the said 85 lots in the subdivision. 3. That the City of Fairhope will assist in obtaining asphalt pavement of the roads, without cost to the City of Fair - hope or to the said corporation, fronting on the said residential lots from the County Commissioners of Baldwin County, Alabama. 4. THat the City of Fairhope will not assess any of the said lots -in excess of the present mortgage value in the event the area is annexed prior to the sale of all of the said lots, or in any other event. 5. That the City of Fairhope will furnish Police protection if the said area is located within the Police jurisdiction of the City of Fairhope, and if not, the County must furnish Sheriff protection. 6: That the City of Fairhope will not enter -into any other type of golf course backing or afford any financing or approve any individuAA, group or corporation for a golf course within five (5) miles of the City of Fairhope City Limits for a period of seven (7) years from this date without written consent of said corporation. 7: That the City of Fairhope, through their present golf course membership committee, will provide all aid possible in the sale of additional membership without cost to the corporation unt a full membership is obtained. 86' That this Motion will stand good for a period of nvnety (90) days,. and if construction is commenced within the said ninet (90) days, will stand as read. ' Motion carried unanimously. Motion by Councilman Stine seconded by Councilman Spader that the following Resolution be adopted. Motion carried unanimously. RESOLUTION BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fairhope, Alabama that the City.accept low bid of Gulf City Construction Company, Eight Mile, Alabama;, in the amount of $549,109.50 for construction of new pier as per plans and specifications and presented at the regular meeting of July 8, 1968. Motion by Councilman Reynolds seconded by Councilman Stipes that the Mayor be authorized to sign contract with Gulf City Constru tion Company, low bidder on new pier construction: Motion carried unanimously; Motion by j'Councilman Reynolds seconded by Councilman Stipes that the meeting adjourn.. Motion carried. Approved Mayor Attest: City Clerk 1� �V U SHERATON Executive Office t July 8, 1968 Fairhope City Council Fairhope, Alabama and Residential Subdivision Re: Proposal for construction of Golf Course/at Fairhppq,Alabaaa Gentlemen: I propose to form a corporation to construct the Firhope Golf and Country Club golf course,together with a residential subdivision surrounding this golf course, to be located east of the City of Fairhope off Belforest Road, and presently ap- proved by the Golf Course Membership Committee of the City of Fairhope, provided the following assurances by the City Council can be afforded me forthwith: That the city of Fairhope will install, at their own expense, mecessary gas and water service for residential use only to the eighty-five (85) perimeter lots on Section Line roads, in the subdivisinn (residential) as per plat attached. That the City of Fairhope, through its City Council will aid in obtaining as- phaltic pavement of the roads fronting the said residential subdivision lots, from the county of Baldwin, Alabama, without cost to the said corporation. That the City Council of Fairhope through its City council or otherwise will not assess the said lots shown on said plat in excess of present mortgage value in the event the area is annexed prior to the sale of all said lotsy or in any other event. That the City of Fairhope through its police department will continue to afford police protection to this said area the same protection and service as is afforded to the City of Fairhope. That the City of Fairhope will not eater into any other type of golf or recrea- tional facility or afford backing to finance or approve any individual, group, or corporation to locate within five (5) milpe of the City of Fairhope city limits for the next seven years from this date) without written consent of said Corporation) That the City of Fairhope through their present Golf Course membership Committee, will aid in the sale of additional memberships without cost to the Corporation un- til a full membership is obtained. When the City of Rairhope through its City Council has provided the said Corpora- tion with the above assurances then the City of Fairhope may appoint three (3) mem- bers to the membership committe ofi the Club to regulate membership with a five (5)- person membership committee. /Within ninety(90) days after receipt of these assurances by the said Corpora- tion from the City ceNSruction will commence on the Golf Course and be completed within a reasonable/in a workman -like manner. *therporation.
