HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-25-1968 Regular MeetingR UY OOFA HEM N The City Council of the City of Fairhope, Alabama, met in regular session at the City Hall, Monday, march 25, 1968 at 7:30 p.m., with the following members present: mayor Macon, Councilmen Spade Reynolds, Stipes, Gaston and Stine. Minutes of the previous regular meeting and special meeting of Tuesday, March 19, 1968 were approved. Motion by Councilman Stipes, seconded by Councilman Reynolds that the City open the deeded street as shown on the plat presented by Mrs. Ola P. Malcdm. Motion carried. The Fiscal Agents, Mr. William Crams and Mr. C. Lanier, and re- presentatives of the First National Bank of Fairhope, Mr. Sam Dyso and Mr. George Dyson Jr.,_met with the Council to discuss finances Letter from Fairhope Single Tas Corporation concerning the widenin of North Section Street and Fairhope Avenue was read and referred to City Engineer for action. Council recommended that City Attorney John Duck, confer with Wellington H. Johnston concerning drainage problem on Mr. Johns- ton's property. Motion by Councilman Stine, seconded by Councilman Stipes that Ordinance No. 389, an Ordinance Providing for An Admendment to Ordinance No. 266, introduced at the regular meeting of March 11, 1968 be adopted as introduced. Motion carried. This being date advertised for public hearing on rezoning applica- tion of Eugene Bosby, motion by Councilman Stipes, seconded by Councilman Gaston that the following ordinance be introduced. Motion carried. Lotion by Councilman Reynolds, seconded by Councilman Stine that the City Clerk be authorized to transfer $25,000.00 from Electric Fund and $25#000.00 from Gas Fund to the General Fund. motion Carri Action on application for package beer license submitted by Philli Mitchell was tabled until next meeting, pending investigation by the Chief of Police as requested by Councilman Stipes. Motion by Councilman Stipes, Seconded by Councilman Reynolds, that the City Council approve payment of bill for $1,880.12, submitted by Moore Engineering Company. Motion carried., Building Inspector displayed plat of addition to Elks Club and was instructed by Council to issue permit for same. Motion by Councilman Reynolds, seconded by Councilman Stipes that the City send five fireman to Fire School at Tuscaloosa, Alabama, at a cost of $165.00 per man for men not employed by the City, and $65.00 per man for City Employees. motion carried. Mayor appointed Committee of John Duck, Jack Kirk and Ack Moors to meet with Mr. Amon Gates in Mr. Duck's Office at 10:30 a.m., !6ed.- Ree,d&y, March 26, 1968, to discuss sewer line on Ashley Drive. Motion by Mr. Stipes, seconded by Mr. Spader that City Recorder be authorized to at0 nd Alabama Municipal Judges meeting in Birmingham on March 29-319 1968. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Reynolds, seconded by Councilman Gaston, that the City accept the low bid of Boan Construction Company of $259284.10 on Utility Adjustment Project S-635-(5) and that the Mayor be and hereby is authorized to sign contract for same. Motion carried. id. Motion by Councilman Reynolds, seconded by Councilman Stipes that t e City accept the low bid of Material Sales Corp., of $1,454.57 for sewer pipe. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Stipes, seconded by Councilman Spader that Barney Shull be reappointed to the Recreation Board. Motion carrie . Mr. Shull reported on proposed summer swimming program iudget but no action taken. He also gave detailed report on the golf course survey made by the,Recreation Board and outlined plans for the con- struction of same. Motion by Councilman Gaston, seconded by Councilman Reynolds that the following resolution be adopted. BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Fairhope City Council, after hearing the plans as outlined.by the Recreation Board for a new eighteen hole golf course for Fairhope agrees to cooperate to the extent as out- lined by the Board, providing enough paid members are obtained.
