HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-10-1966 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular ses- sion at the City Hall, Monday, January 10, 1966 with the fol- lowing members present: Mayor Macon, Councilmen, Spader, Reynolds, Stipes, Gaston and Stine. The minutes of the previous regular meeting were approved. This being date set for opening bids on new piok-up truck, the following bids were received and presented to the Council: Gaston Motor Co., Straight Sale......$1 793.40 Wth.' Trade......... 1,729.50 Motion by Councilman Reynolds, seconded by Councilman Stipes that the City accept low bid on straight sale of Gaston Motor Company. Motion carried. Councilman Gaston not' — voting. Motion by Councilman Stipes, seoonded by Councilman Spader that the City advertise for bids on 80 W Mobile Unit for new pick-up truck. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Reynolds, seconded by Councilman Spader that Ordinance #346 Amending Zoning Ordinance #295, introduced at the regular meeting of December 13, 1965, be adopted as introduced. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Gaston, seconded by Councilman Stipes that the following Ordinance be introduced: ORDINANCE #M 3 V 7 Be It Ordained by the City Council of the City of Fairhope, Alabama, that Section 139 District Boundaries of Zoning Ordinance #295 be amended as recommended by the Plan- ning and Zoning Commission by rezoning the following des- oribed property from R-1 to R-3. Lots 199 20 and 21 in Block 2 Fairland Heights Subdivision. Motion by Councilman Reynolds, seconded by Councilman Gaston that City advertise for bids on 250 ft. 1* in, fire hose and 2 Breathing apparatus as per specifications of Volunteer Fire Department, Bids to be opened at next regular meeting of the City Council on January 24, 1966. Motion carried. Mr..Lemler of Riviera Utilities met with the Council pertaining to electric service contract. Dr. Mullins, Chairman of the Airport Board, discussed future plans of the Board with the Council. 9/ Motion by Councilman Spader, seconded by Councilman Gaston that $500.00 be authorized for expansion of Police Office, police and Fire employees to do work. Motion car- ried. Motion by Councilman Reynolds, seconded by Councilman Stipes that City install tile on East side of Mershon Street at Nichols Street on City property as requested by Mr. Boone. Ro-to pay cost of tile. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Stipes, seconded by Councilman Stine that Council approve renewal of contract with Robert Bateman and Associates for balance of this administration ending October 1, 1968 as recommended by Planning Board. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Stine, seconded by Councilman Stipes that bills be approved for payment. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Stipes, seconded by Councilman Spader that City loan projector to School of Organic Edu- cation. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Stine, seconded by Councilman Stipes that City start negotiations with Alabama Power Company re- garding buying power direct from Alabama Power Company o er a five year period. Motion carried.. Motion by Councilman Stipes, seconded by Councilman Stine that the following Resolution be adopted: Be It Resolved that the Fairhope City Council autho- rize Byrd L. Moore and Company to proceed to develop# preliminary plans on access roads as follows: Four -lane with curb and gutter and sidewalks from the north end of Section Street at the "Y" south to Fairhope Avenue, and widen curb and gutters and sidewalks east along Fairhope Avenue to Greeno Road. Engineers fee shall be one and one half (1j) percent of estimated cost of construction and shall cover pre- liminary map and cost estimate. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Stine seconded by Councilman Reynolds that the following Resolution be adopted: Be It Resolved that the Fairhope City Council request the State Highway Department to include in their present first phase construction plan that section from Station 12+53.4 to Station 106+03.6 (from Morphy Avenue to Alabama Highway 104) of project number 5-635 (3) (Fair - hope to Spanish Fort) Be It Further Resolved that copies of this Resolution be mailed to the Governor of Alabama, Highway Director, State Senator and State Representative. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Stine, seconded by Councilman Stipes that Ira C. Akins be employed as lineman in the Elec- trio Department. Motion carried., 1b Motion by Councilman Gaston seconded by Councilman Stine that bill of Delta Exterminating Company be approved for payment. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Stipes seconded by Councilman Reynolds that the following Resolution be adopted: Whereas certain funds of the City haverbeen moved or placed in unauthorized depositories without Council's approval, therefore I move that these funds be returned to their proper place according to our City Code. Motion by Councilman Reynolds, seconded by Councilman Stipes that gas money on deposit in Merchants National Bank of Mobile be transferred to The First National Bank of Fair - hope. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Reynolds seconded by Councilman Gaston that the meeting adjourn. Motion carried.
