COUNTY OF BALDWIN
The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular session at
the City Hall at 7:30 P. M. on Monday, August 249 1964 with the
following members present: Mayor Schneider, Councilmen Boone,
Gaston, Nelson and Spader. Councilman Poser being absent.
The minutes of the previous regular meetings were approved.
The request of the V.F.W, to install sign on Lot 20, Block 16 at
Seminole and Section Streets was referred to the Board of Zoning
Adjustment.
Motion by Councilman Boone, seconded by Councilman Nelson that
insurance be authorized for balance of this administration and
that Huffman Insurance Agency be assured that the premium will be
paid for that period of time and refer renewal of policies to the
new administration. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Nelson, seconded by Councilman Gaston that in
the matter of the uncompleted swimming pool in the Smith Tract
Project, due to the lateness of the season, the cost of employing
life guards and maintaining the pool in sanitary condition and
because the legal responsibilities of the City have not as yet been
determined in regard to the operation of the pool by the Recreation
Board, that the pool NOT be placed in operation before the start
of swimming classes in next Summers recreation season, and that no
further tax -derived funds be expended on this project at present,
beyond the contractual obligations and a sum necessary to secure
the pool from damage and trespass.
Upon being put to vote the following vote was recorded: Voting for:
Councilmen Boone, Gaston & Nelson. Voting against: Mayor Schneider
and Councilman Spader. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Gaston seconded by Councilman Boone that the
bill of Baadley, Arant, Hose & White for services rendered in
connection with the Public Building Authority be tabled. Motion
carried.
Motion by Councilman Nelson seconded by Councilman Boone that the
followtg Resolution be adopted:
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fairhope
that the following are appointed election officials for the second
or run-off election to be held at Fort Riel Armory in the City of
Fairhope, Alabama, on the 15th day of September, 1964:
Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Councilman Nelson seconded by Councilman Spader that
standard traffic light be installed on Church St. at Fels Avenue.
Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman_ Nelson seconded by Councilman Gaston that the
Chief of Police and Electric Superintendent be authorized to
purchase and install the necessary traffic light in front of the
school in order that Church St. at the Elementary School can be
kept open. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Boone seconded by Councilman Gaston that
Moore Engineers be authorized to set line grade on sidewalk to be
built by KlumppXlYiotor Co. in front of their new building on
Section Street. The City to pay cost of engineering and Klumpp
Motor Co. to pay cost of sidewalk. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Nelson_ seconded by Councilman Gaston that in
view of the newly revealed fact that liquor cannot be restricted
to a separate but adjoining lounge at the Dogwood Bowling Lanes
as was the original intent and in view of the fact that l�,r. Tom
Hale owner of said Lanes, no longer wishes to pursue the idea of
the iounge, the liquor permit granted at a previous meeting of this
Council be rescinded. Upon being put to vote the following vote
was recorded: Voting For: Mayor Schneider, Councilmen, Boone,
Gaston Nelson and Spader. Voting Against: None. Councilman
Poser teing absent. Motion carried.
Lotion by Councilman Boone seconded by Councilman Gaston that the
City Attorney and City Engineer be authorized to take proper
trips in regard to Federal Aid Project No. 193(10). Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Nelson seconded by Councilman Boone that the
City Council express their sincere wishes for a speedy recovery
to Ir. George Dyson, General Superintendent, who is ill in The
Mobile Infirmary. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Councilman Nelson seconded by Councilman Boone that the
meeting adjourn. Motion carried.
