The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in unadjourned session
at the City Hall on Wednesday, August 129 1964 at 7:30 P. M. with
the following members present: Mayor Schneider, Councilmen Boone,
Gaston, Nelson, Poser and Spader.
The Mayor stated that the purpose of the meeting was to canvass
the returns of the City Election held on the 11th day of August,
1964.
Upon completion of opening and checking the returns, Councilman
Boone moved, Councilman Poser seconded that the following Resolution
be adopted and a certificate of election be sent to candidates
receiving a majority of the votes cast for that office , which shall
entitle the persons so certified to the possession of their respec-
tive offices immediately upon the expiration of the terms of their
predecessors, as provided by law.
RESOLUTION
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fairhope
that on a canvass of the returns of the City Election held on the
11th day of August, 1964, the City Council ascertained and deter-
mined that the number of votes received by each candidate was as
follows:

and that the following candidates have received a majority of the
votes cast for that office set opposite their names, and the City
Council declare said candidates elected to such offices:
R. J. (DICK) SPARER, elected Councilman for Place No. 1.
R. ROY REYNOLDS, elected Councilman for Place No, 2,
J. E. GASTON, JR., elected Councilman for Place No. 4.
It is further declared and ordered that a second, or run-off
election be held on the 15th day of September, 1964, for the office
of Mayor and for Councilman, Place No. 3 and Councilman Place No. 59
of the City Council, at which election R. C. Macon and Joe Schneider
are the two candidates receiving the most and the second most votes
and shall be candidates for Mayor; and Walter 0. Poser and Jack A.
Stipes are the candidates receiving the most and second most votes
and shall be candidates for Councilman, Place No. 3; and Frank J.
Nlanci and Robert H. Stine are the candidates readying the most and
second most votes and shall be candidates for Councilman, Place No- 5-
RESOLUTION carried unanimously.
