HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-24-1964 Regular Unadjourned MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular unadjourned session at the City Hall, Wednesday, June 24, 1964 at 7:30 P.M. with the following members present: Mayor Schneider, Councilmen: Boone, Gaston, Nelson, Poser and Spader. Absent: None. The minutes of the previous regular meetings of May 25, June 8 and3Une 24, 1964 were approved. Motion by Councilman Nelson seconded by Councilman Gaston that 1239.40 be donated to the Volunteer Fire Department for Liability nsuranee. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Poser seconded by Councilman Spader that the attached bills be approved for payment. Motion carried. Notion by Councilman Poser seconded by Councilman Spader that the following REsolution be adopted: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Fairhope that they accept offer of Bateman and Associates, their letter dated June 17, 1964 to delet scale model of park from his contract dated October 1, 19939 for a 9600,00 reduction from his contract. Upon being put to vote the following vote was reeordeds Voting for: Mayor Schneider Councilmens Poser and Spader. Voting Against: Councilmen:, Boone an�. Nelson. Councilman Gastton abstained from voting. Motion carried., Motion by Councilman Nelson seconded by Councilman Poser that the City advertise for bids on installation of Water and Sanitary facilities at Young Street Park as requested by the REcreation Board. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Poser seconded by Councilman Spader that the bill of Woods and Steber, Architects, be approved for pay- ment as recommended by the Public Building Authority. Motion by Councilman Boone seconded by Councilman Nelson thatCouncilman Poser's motion be tabled. The Mayor called for vote on Council- man Boone's motion with the following results: Voting For: Councilmen: Boone, Gaston and Nelson. Voting Against: Mayor Schneider, Councilmen: Poser and Spader. Councilman Poser with- drew his motion that the bill be paid. Councilman Boone withdrew his motion that the motion be tabled. Motion by Councilman Boone seconded by Councilman Poser that the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to pay final bill of Tucker Bros. on Gas Line Relocation in the amount of $48,570.61. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Boone seconded by Councilman Gaston that Moore Engineering Co. be pald up to 90% of original contract on gas line relocation until s ttlement on line has been approved by the City Council. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Poser seconded by Councilman Gaston that bills of Williams and Bouler Construction co., in the amount of 1159773,62 and Moore Engineering Co. bill in the amount of 701-05 on 1963 Street Improvement Program be approved for pay- ment. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Nelson seconded by Councilman Poser that all City Employees be given a 10# per hour increase in salary as presented by Councilman Spader. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Poser seconded by Councilman Boone that the City install light for parking lot at Hunter's Laundromat with a flat charge of 03.00 per month if no pole required and 03.50 per month if pole installation is needed. Motion carried. do n euest for sidewalk repair on Mobile Avenue from Pier MreeR �o ejs Avenue was tabled: Motion by JCoungilman Nelson seconded by Councilman Gaston that the following Rrasolution be adopted: BE IT RESOLVED by the City JCounell of the City of Fairhope that the question"Are you in favor of the Public Building Authority of the City of Fairhope issuing Bonds in the sum of $390,000.00 to establish the Civic Auditorium in accordance with lans now posted in the window of the Chamber of Commerce ( ) Yes ) No",be referred to the voters of Fairhope to be voted on on the 7th day of July, 1964. Poles to open at 10:00 K.M. and close at 8:00 P.M. Voting to be at the City Fire Station. Motion carried unanimously. Motion by Councilman Boone seconded by Councilman Poser that 9City accept low bid of Phillip McCarthyin the amount of 7.00 on Library repairs. Motion carried. Motion by JCouncilman Poser that the following Ordinance be introduced: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SEC. 15-1 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE, ALABAMA. BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Fairhope that See,: 15-1 of Code of Ordinances of the City of Fairhope be amended to read as follows: SEC*[ 15i1 BILLS - When Due and Payable; Delinquency Penalties All bils for electric, gas water, sewer and garbage service owing to the City shall to due when services are billed and delinquent unless paid on or before 10 days after they are billed and unless paid on or before delinquency there shall be added to and eolleoted as a part of such bills to defray the additional costs to the City resulting from such delinquencies, an additional sum of five per cent () of the amount of such bill. All bills more than thirty (30) days delinquent shall bear interest at the rate of 6 per annum, which shall be collected in addition to the amount of t e bill and the penalty. This Ordinance to be effective August 1, 1964. Motion by Councilman Poser seconded by Councilman Nelson that the City Clerk be authorized to transfer $539000,00 from the Electric Fund to the General Fund to pay for the new fire truck and operating eMenses for balance of fiscal year. Motion carried., Motion by Councilman Nelson seconded by Councilman Gaston that the Council authori a up to $1200000 for paving at the ANNA T. JEANES School. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Boone seconded by Councilman Poser that the City Superintendent be authorized to purchase an electrically operated hypoehlorinator from Wallace and Tiernan at a cost of $384.00. Motion carried. Lotion by Councilman Boone seconded by Councilman Gaston that the meeting adjourn to meet on .July 79 1964 at 10:00 P.M. at the City Hall, Motion carried.
