HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-11-1964 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The City Council of the City of Fairhope met in regular session at the City Hall, Monday, May 11, 1964 at 7:30 P. M. with the following members present: Mayor Schneider, Councilmen: Boone, Gaston, Nelson, Poser and Spader. The minutes of the previous regular meeting and special meeting of May 4, 1964 were approved. Dr. C. A. Gaston, Mr. J. Lipsoomb and Mrs. Celia Brazael, members of the Library Board, met with the Council pertaining to the budget for the balance of this fiscal year. After a general discussion the following Resolution was introduced by Councilman Poser and seconded by Councilman Spader. BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council hereby approves a budget for the Fairhope Public Library in the amount of $19000,00 per month, as requested, to be effective from May 1st9 1964 through September 30, 1964. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City pay the Single Tax Colony rental, maintenance, insurance and provide utility service for the present facilities in addition to the above budget. Motion carried unanimously. Motion by Councilman Poser seconded by Councilman Spader that the City of Fairhope contribute $500,00 to the USS Alabama Battleship Commission for the purpose of advertising. Upon being put to vote, the following vote was recorded: For:' Mayor Schneider, Councilmen Boone, Gaston, Poser and Spader. Against: None, Councilman Nelson abstained from voting. Motion carried. Request of B. I. Reynolds for solution to erosion of his business property was referred to the General Superintendent to check and report to the Council. Motion by Councilman Poser seconded by Councilman Spader that the City pay Fred Woods, Inc. bill of $6,000.00 for Architectural fee for park facilities, the Public Building Authority to reimburse City. Upon being put to vote the following votewwas recorded: For: Mayor Schneider, Councilmen Poser and Spader. Against: Councilmen Boone and Nelson. Councilman Gaston abstained from voting. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Poser seconded by Councilman Boone that the Council approve balance of Bailey & Lacey bill in the amount of $4,560.13 for services rendered thru March 21, 1964. Motion carried unanimously. Motion by Councilman Poser seconded by Councilman Spader that the following Resolution be adopted: RESOLUTION BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Fairhope offer the following described land to the Public Building Authority at the appraised price of $249000.00: Beginning at the Northeast corner of Section 39, Township 6 South Range 2 East, thence west approximately 605' to the intersection of the West right of way line and the North line of Section 399 thence southeast along the West right of way line of Greeno Road 250' to a point which is the point of beginni , thence west 450' to a point thence south 270', thence east 20010 a p nt, thence south 100' to I a point, thence, thence west 50' to a point, thence south 340' to a point, thence east 423' to the West right of way line of Greeno Road, thence northwest along the west right of way line of Greeno Road 823' to a point which is the point of beginning. Upon being put to vote the following vote was recorded: For: Mayor Schneider, Councilmen Poser and Spader. Against: Councilman Nelson. Councilman Boone and Gaston abstained from voting. Motion carried. Request for beer permit at Friend Club on Twin Beach Road was tabled until next regular meeting of the Council. Request for sewer line installation on Volanta St, was discussed. Mr. Ed Warley and Mr. Claude Arnold reported on plans to develop docks at Fly Creek. The City Attorney was instructed to draw up the necessary Resolution for the next regular meeting of the Council. Motion by Councilman Boone, seconded by Councilman Nelson that the City purchase Plunger Sludge Pump from Chicago Pump Co. for 61,025.00, low quotation submitted. Motion carried unanimously. Motion by Councilman Nelson, seconded by Councilman Poser that application of Shell Station to replace sign at Section and Morphy be approved as submitted. Motion carried. Mbtion by Councilman Gaston seconded by Councilman Boone that the Council authorize expenditures not to exceed $400.00 for fireworks for 4th of July. Fireworks to be under the supervision of the Fire Department. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Boone seconded by Councilman Gaston that the City Clerk be authorized to prepare voting list for Municipal election to be held on August 119 1964. Motion carried. Motion by Counelman Nelson that additional lights be installed at the Little League ballpark. Motion died for lack of second. Motion by Councilman Boone seconded by Councilman Gaston that Moore Engineering bill on Gas Relocation Project in the amount of 18,089.06 be approved for payment. Motion carried. 5� Motion by Councilman Boone seconded by Councilman Poser that Estimate #6 in the amount of $49922.96 of Williams & Bouler on 1963 Street Improvement be approved for payment. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman Boone seconded by Councilman Nelson that the City Superintendent be authorized to purchase pipe, as requested, from American Cast Iron Pipe Co. Motion carried. Mayor /City -Clerk April 30, 1964 TO: Fairhope City Councilmen FROM: Mayor Joe Schneider Whereas public interest requires a special meeting of the Fairhope City Council to: (1) Appoint Library Board (2) Accept Budget (3) Conveyance of Library property I hereby call a special meeting of the Fairhope City Council for Monday, May 49 1964 at 7:30 P. M. at the City Hall to consider the above mentioned items and any other business pertaining'to the transfer of the Library as may properly come before this Council.
