The C i ty C ounc i t of the C i ty of Fa i rhope met i n regu I ar sessi on at the C i ty
Hal I,, Monday, August 14, 1961 at 7:30 P.M. with the following members present:
Mayor Joe Schneider, Councilmen: Boone, Gaston, Nelson, Poser and Schermer.
Motion by Councilman Schermer seconded by Councilman Gaston that the minutes
of the previous regular meeting be approved as read. Motion carried.
A gompp group of citizens met with the Council. pertaining to the opening of
Church Street during School hours. Councilman Nelson moved that the subject
be tabled and that a committee from the P. T. A. and all interested parties
meet with the Council, Sub" t tabled and motion agreed to by Council.

Mr. Jfohes, representing Pearson, Humphries and � Jones, Architects:, of Montgomery
met with the Council pertaining to construction of new Civic Center,
Joet Griffin met -with the Council pertaining to the legality of building a
private wharf in V olante area. This Was turned over to the City Attorney for
legal opimiorr.
A letter -from Mr. Lipscomb, Principal of the Fairhope High School, requesting
improvements at the Sr. High School and Jr. High Schoot was: presented. Motion
by Counc i tman Boone seconded- by Councilman Poser that the following Resolut iorr
be adopted. Motion carried.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL that the Council; authorize a part of
the mile of free paving from the State to be put onthe Sr. High School and
Grammer School grounds as per Mr. Lipscombts request, also that a portion of
the one mile of paving be put on Organic School grounds if desired by the
Board of, Directors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council authorize the advertising for
earth moving to base said roads, base to be furnished by the City. Motion
carried.
Motion by Councilman Schermer seconded by Councilman Gaston that the City
authorize printing of Fairrhope advertising pamphlets, cost not to exceed
$300.00. Motion carried.
Councilman Boone moved. that the following Ordinance be introduced which was
seconded by C ounciman Nelson. Councilman Schermer then moved that the motion
be tabled which was seconded by �-ounc i Iman Poser. The. -Mayor then called for a
vote on Councilman's Schermerts motion with the following results: Voting for:
Councilman Schermer and Councilman Poser. Voting Against: C ouncilmens Boone,
Gaston and Nelson. Motion defeated:.
The Mayor then cal led for a vote on Councilman, Boone' s motion with the follow-
ing result: Voting for: Councilmen Boone:, Gaston, Nelson and Poser. Voting.
Against: Councilman Schermer. Motion carried and the following Ordinance was
introduced&
ORDINANCE # 296
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 1:3 of ZONING ORDINANCE # 231.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNC I:L OF THE CITY OF FAIRHOPE, ALABAMA, THAT
Ordinance #231 be amended as follows:
SECTION 13 - District Boundaries.
N. W. corner Volanta Ave. and Section Street, Lots 24, 25 & 31 of
B I oclr. 1 and 1:-A V of anta, recorded in M i sc . Book 1, Page 341 and map
of Resubdiivision of part of V otanta, recorded in Map Book 3, Page 7a,
Probate Records, Baldwin County, Alabama, be rezoned from R-2 to 6-2.

basis. Motion carried,
