HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-10-1949 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAhA County of Baldwin The Town Council of the Town of Fairhope met in regular s session at the Town Hall, Monday October 10, 1949 with the following members present: Mayor, T.J.Klumpp, Council- men J. T. Bradford, M.O.Berglin, R.H.Broi^rn, E.B.Overtonand IraSteele. City Manager C. B. Niemeyer. The minutes of the previous regular meeting and Special meeting were read and approved. On Motion by Councilman Berglin seconded by Councilman Brown the following bills were read and approved for payment: American Cast Iron Pipe Co. Voting Aye: Mayor Klumpp, Councilmen 11. 0. Berglin, J. T. Bradford, R.H. Brown, E. B. Overton and Ira Steele. Voting Nay, None. BE IT RESOLVED that Marie Moore be and she is designated to make up the assessment roll of all property and subjects of taxation in the Town of Fairhope, for the taxes to become due December 1, 1949. Resolution adopted by the Council. Motion by Councilman Overton seconded by Councilman Brown that the following resolution be adopted. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE Town Council of the Town of Fairhope, there be and is hereby levied for general purposes, for the year of 1?2, a tax of one-half on one percentum of the value of'a l property and sub:ect to taxation as assessed for State Taxation during the preceeding year in the Town of"Fairhope. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that there be and is hereby levied for the year 1949, for the purpose of acquiring, installing and maintaining street lights and fire fighting equipment, and for the purpose of constructing, acquiring, maintaining and improving public property, sewers and disposal plants, a special tax of one-half of one percentum of the value of all property and subjects of taxation in the Town of Fairhope as assessed for State taxation during, the preceeding year, as authorized by the result of election held September 3, 1946.' 171HEREAS, under .Amendment number VIII, Municipal Tax .Amendment.. to the Constitution of the State of Alabama, the ToTan of Fairhope is authorized and empowered to levy and collect an additional tax of,one-half of one percentum on the taxable properties and subjects of taxation in the Town of Fairhope for the purpose of paying*the principal of bonds and interest thereon; and WHEREAS the Town of Fairhope has outstanding bonds in the sum of 18,000.00 and it is necessary and proper and to the interest of the citizenry of the Town of Fairhope that such tax be levied for such purposes; NOVI THEREFORE, be it resolved that there be and is hereby levied and shall be collected for the municipal tax year commencing October 1, 1949, a tax of one-half of one per centum on all properties and sub ects of taxation within the Town of Fairhope for the purpose of paying the principal of outstanding bonds of the Town of Fairhope and interest thereon; BE IT FURTHER RESDUED, that the proceeds of such tax when collected shall be kept separate and apart from other taxes of the Town of Fairhope and shall be used exclusively for the payment of the principal of the outstanding bonds of the Town of Fairhope and interest thereon when and as the same shall become due. Resolution unanimously adopted. Motion by Councilman Steele seconded by Councilman Berglin that the application of Simmons Feed and Seed Store for permit to erect sign in front of store on Fair.hopeAvenue. be�'.allowed.' motion carried. ,`.otion by Councilman Bradford seconded by Councilman Steele that Herbert Forster application to move house be allowed.
