HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-22-1946 Regular MeetingSTATE OF ALABAMA COUNTY OF BALDWIN The Town Council of the Town of Fairhope met in regular session at the Town Hall Tuesday October 221 1946 at 7:30 P.M. with the following members present: Mayor, Howard Ruge, Councilmen: J. 11. Bennett, C. A. Gaston, H. P. Y_amper, AT. 0. Keeble and J. 0. Stimpson. The minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved. Motion by Councilman C. A. Gaston seconded by Councilman J. H. Bennett that the application of G. 11, Fatheree to construct a culvert for drive way at the Live Oak Grill on Mobile Avenue be allowed. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman C. A. Gaston seconded by Councilman J. H. Bennett that the application of E Charlie Madisonfor building peritit on Lot 1 Blk 8 Division 4 be rejected unless material as specified in fire Ordinance be used. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman C. A. Gaston seconded by Councilman W. 0. Keeble that the Country Club committee be authorized to make the Country Club available to the Fairhope Recreation Council on Friday and Saturday nights to the extent of not conflicting with previous committments and to contribute an additional $10.00 per month to the recreation fund. Motion carried. Motion by Councilman J. 0. Stimpson seconded by Councilman H. P. Kamper that the Mayor be authorized to make the atheletic field available to the Baldwin County Training School for football game with other colored contestant. Motion carried. Councilman H. P. Kamper offered the following resolution and moved its adoption, seconded by Councilman 'K. 0. Keeble. WHEREAS, The assessment of and on all property and subjects to taxation liable for taxes in the Town of Fairhope for the year 1946 having been made by R. C. Yohn, the person designated by the Town Council of the Town of Fairhope, Alabama, to assess such taxes, and having been returned to the Council, all in accordance with the laws of the State of Alabama and of the Town of Fairhope; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Town Council of the Town of Fairhope will sit between the hours of 7:30 o'clock P.Y. and 9:30 o'clock P.M. on the 26th day of November, 19467 to hear and determine any and all objections to such assessment of town taxes. BE IT FURTH-ER RESOLVED, That the Mayor of the Town of Fairhope and the Clerk of the Town of Fairhope be and they are hereby directed to cause I notice of such assessment of taxes, and of the time and place for hearing and determining objections thereto to be given by publication in the Fairhope Courier, in its issues of October 31st and. November 7th, 1946. Motion carried. The following resolution was unamimously adopted. BE IT RESOLVED that the Street on and along the North and South half section line of Sections 17 and 20 Tp 6s R2E running South from Morphy Avenue in the Town of Fairhope be and is hereby named "Young Street"; BE IT FURTI= RESOLVED that the Mayor cause such street be be properly marked shoeing the name hereby given to it. Motion by Councilman H. P. Kamper seconded by Councilman C. A. Gaston that the Mayor be directed to employ Smith, Dukes and Buckalew to make the annual audit for the fiscal year ending September 30, 1946. Motion carried. It was duly moved and seconded that the meeting adjourn. Motion carried. M Approved -e ��.. Mayor BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that there be and is hereby levied for the year 1946, for the purpose of acquiring, installing and maintaining street lizhts and fire fighting equipment, and for the purpose of constructing, acquiring, maintaining and improving public property, a special tax of one-half of one percentum of the value of all property and subjects of taxation in the Town of Fairhope as assessed for State taxation during the preceeding year, as authorized by the result of election held September 3, 1946.
